Funny stuff. Just a comment about .wmv becoming the standard – I used to think this too. Quicktimes using h.264 are WAY better than .wmv’s at ANY size. It’s not even close. Plus the files are usually smaller.
Use Quicktime Pro to export your files for the web – works great and everyone can see them – Mac or PC.

Both the Xena LH and Xena 2K give you hardware realtime on certain native Adobe plug-ins such as RGB Color Balance, Brightness/Contrast and Gamma Correction – I demoed these FX on both cards at the show – very cool. You can also stack multiple instances of each of the effects with no rendering. Other FX and plug-ins must be rendered before laying back to tape.
Both cards also allow .avi’s, Quicktimes, image sequences (targas, .dpx etc.) and native HDV files to be cut in to the same Premiere Pro sequence in realtime with no rendering. You also get live previews out of After Effects, Photoshop, Combustion and Fusion.

You should have no problems – just import the footage into your Avid project with the settings you want – just like any other footage.

Appreciate the good news – I’ve gone every year since Mandalay Bay and always had a great time – last being the exception – I’m sure it will be a fun event at the new location this year!
Sorry for the harsh words – just bummed there was no Apple event.

Hah – was gonna say the same thing – 1st upgrade to 3.0! Silly to not be using the latest version, it’s just better – same for all you Vegas 4 and 5 users.

Cutting a feature right now in 2.0 with no problems. The same show was a disaster in 1.5, radical improvements in 2.0 – we thought we’d have to divide the show into several reels but have been cutting the entire 90 min. timeline with no problems at all.
We will be re-capturing the HDCAM masters soon via Cineform Prospect/Xena on a HP 9300 – I’ll post the results.

So instead of a well-planned, well designed, great FREE event with excellent food and free drinks – you can go Wed. and PAY to see the latest from Apple. Last years FCP meeting was the worst event I’ve ever been to – terrible food, a/v problems out the wazoo, terrible food – a rehashing of the better run Promax event the night before.
Of course the raffle is great fun but only for those that can spend a $100 or more on raffle tickets (last year one guy one at least 3 prizes) – for everyone else it’s a night of overcooked jalepeno poppers and sore butts. I think the event would be more fun if there was a limit to the tickets one could buy. At least this year the location has been upgraded and the raffle prize list is impressive.

Thanks for the clarification.

Aanarav,
I hope you are not using the A.C.E. initials after your name in your work as an editor – Adobe Certified Expert is not the same as American Cinema Editors – which is the worldwide insignia of someone who has been invited, approved and admitted to ACE based on achieving a high level in their work in film and television (Oscars, Emmys, etc.) and is a tough designation to attain – certainly harder than becoming Adobe, Apple or Avid certified.
