Or are they basicly I/O cards and everything is dependant on your PC? Is any load taken offthe CPU?

i was just checking them out at NAB. the downcoverts from 2k to simulanious 1080i, 720p and SD are all seemingly 3 way color corrected in realtime. i do know all downconverts are done on the card…checking this out. Xena 2ke looks really hot and premiere seems to have stepped up its game quite a bit with 2.0.

    Thanks.

I didnt have time to check alot of stuff at NAB as I spent more time in the TV/Video/Film showcase (cameras and such).

I’m interested in either the Aja or the Decklink card as I need the capabilities of SDI/Component In for the future. If these cards accelerate at least the rendering and are not wholly dependant on the CPU, then I’d grab one right now.

    Dave,

That would be a question I would pose directly to AJA. I do think this depends on the software app, rather than just solely the hardware.

For example, we utilize the AJA boards on Linux and have written our own driver and app that use virtually none of the CPU to perform functions, however we are not doing any rendering or currently supporting transitions so we really can’t talk apples to apples.

The point is for all of the functions supported in the board, i.e up/down convert, etc…they are all board intensive, whereas other features may be app related.

    Best of luck,
    Ramona

Both the Xena LH and Xena 2K give you hardware realtime on certain native Adobe plug-ins such as RGB Color Balance, Brightness/Contrast and Gamma Correction – I demoed these FX on both cards at the show – very cool. You can also stack multiple instances of each of the effects with no rendering. Other FX and plug-ins must be rendered before laying back to tape.

Both cards also allow .avi’s, Quicktimes, image sequences (targas, .dpx etc.) and native HDV files to be cut in to the same Premiere Pro sequence in realtime with no rendering. You also get live previews out of After Effects, Photoshop, Combustion and Fusion.

    Hi All,

I’ve just came back from NAB and I witness
the power of the AJA working greatly with
    Adobe Premiere Pro.

Good demo and hope to get a full release
    software by end of May06.

    Best Regards
