Gotta cast my vote on this one – I’ve found PPro to be completely unusable for just about anything. I’ve even had it crash while just sitting there. I’ve tried it on many machines including cpu’s that are approved by Avid etc.
Great interface, but completely useless. Too bad, maybe Adobe is listening and will finally fix the instability issues. I was a beta tester this last round and Adobe seemed to disregard any professional input and listen to marketing.
Fianl Cut Pro is a much better solution – not as elegant as PPro but it works and I can deliver shows!

Cool! We use Maya for all 3D. We used XSI for the movie but because we are using outside studios for addl’l workload we switched to Maya.

I would go for the Dell Precision 490 and a 30″ Dell LCD. Get the Quadro 1500 or 3500 video card. We just set one up for our series with Dual Core Duo Xeons – very fast!
Plus it’s an Avid Adrenaline approved box so it has been through a fair amount of high-end video testing. You won’t get the same quality build from your local PC builder – they’re great for gaming but NOT for pro video!

Concur – couldn’t render a 1080p project until I set the threads to 1 and memory to 128

I did – but probably have the wrong settings – we just need to know what setting combo would work to elimante the shift.

Yes – but the same shift happens – when playing the files look overly crushed. Just trying to get a setting so the image looks the same whether playing or paused – and not washed out like it loks when using a YUV setting.

I’ve tested Sheer and Kona RGB – both look good, but still gettin a shift when I hit play – files either look great while playing or great while parked depending on the codec???

I have a 1080p attached via comp and an SDI NTSC monitor. The shift is happening on both – just trying to find out the correct settings for reliable RGB workflow with FCP/Kona.
