I’m actually out of town away from my project. I think I’m using; auto color, contrast, & unsharp mask… – Thanks

I am using footage from a Canon T2i. I would like to investigate a workflow where I can ad the filters last. Maybe a proxie based workflow…

That makes sense about the resolution. Will installing the GeForce GTX 285 or a Quadro 4000 make my playback work? I am using SATA drives with external RAID firewire drives. Thanks

I feel a bit like I am dealing with voodoo & marketing propaganda with deciding on a new Mac…
I may have gotten off to a bad start by importing data from my laptop to my iMac i7. I may try to redo everything, but I have an RMA # from apple which will expire soon & I have kind of decided that even if I double the actual speed on the iMac, that that will not be fast enough & I am scared about keeping an expensive machine that won’t do the job.
On my laptop I can watch Youtube & Vimeo videos streaming at 720p. My new iMac stalls on everything but 360p.
I have been reading that using the extra cores depends on how new (or how well written) the software is.
My old dual processor G4 really shined using OSX & I am leaning towards a new dual processor machine with the more expensive video card.
My brain doesn’t understand all this stuff & I need to save some space in my head for my upcoming battle with formats & trans-coding, etc., which have me stupefied!
I used to edit on tape years ago & I’m just getting back into video after 15 years.
For the record, I was getting pretty good at OS9………………………………………………………

I am referring to Mac Pros that accept PCI cards & yes, the drives in question have eSATA connections…

Hey Michael,
Thanks for answering my questions. I might be interested in buying your SOnnet E4p card, but first I need to buy a new MacPro.
But my question concerns the 2 external drives I already own, they are already in enclosures. Right now they are connected using the FW 800 ports, but they also have eSATA; Is it worth the $ for me to buy a pci eSATA card for my existing buffalo 1.5 TB drives, or should I just stick with the FW?
Thanks -
That sounds like good advice, however I will probably just get a newer, bigger computer, that is also much smarter than my iMac i7.
P.S. I am beginning to get a lay of the land; Network TV is edited on iMacs, Avatar II will be handled by Mac Minis, but behind the curtain will be render farms!

I am having trouble with FCP, but the Adobe seems OK. Maybe I should reinstall my apps, I’m still thinking I need a bigger computer though… When I got the iMac i7, It just asked me if I wanted to migrate everything & it was so easy & I was fighting the clock, maybe now I am paying the price!?! But I want to render & transcode as fast as I can!

I converted the camera files to pro res on my laptop, before I got the i7 iMac, now that I think about it.
On the i7 iMac, I’ve had sluggish editing, rendering & burning of DVDs on both HD & SD. I converted HD to SD using CS4 Media converter. So far everything seems to take about the same amount of time that it takes on the laptop, but the laptop is much better for viewing streaming video online…
