It will probably get down to that, Ra-ey. But I am surprised nobody has built that effect already. It’s a thing that most Boomers would be very well-acquainted with. And we’re very fussy about getting our vintage memories just right! 🙂

Yes, I’ve watched that tutorial, Ra-ey. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t show exactly how TVs used to switch off. (Trust me, I know. I was 14 when TV first started in my State, back in ancient times.)

I recall the horizontal line used to be much smoother than the tutorial shows, and was tapered at each end, slightly bulging in the middle. It used to shrink at a decellerating rate, rather than as an instant snap to a line. And the bright dot in the middle didn’t have any “flare halo”, it was just a very bright pinpoint spot of glowing light.

Anyway, maybe the best way to get it is to find someone with a 1956 TV set!!

But I’m sure the effect could be perfectly mimicked by a particle emmitter. Made for the job! 🙂

    Thanks, anyway.

Joss, I was just perusing the AE site, and on the Contact Us page I noticed this…called Ink Effects…

Of course, it’s not a particle emitter effect, and you’d probably have to buy whatever software that was created with, but it might be worth checking out.

And I don’t think Alan and friends wouild mind my referring you to it, (at least I hope not).

It’s okay, I figured it out. I hadn’t set the Bounce down. Partciles were bouncing up so high they didn’t get the chance to roll on to the deflector.

James, there’s a pretty good time-lapse cloud at “alan.01.08” library.

But I’m guessing you want something like those high white cumulonimbus clouds that seem to “boil” when filmed in time-lapse?

I don’t think there’s an emitter yet for that type of cloud, but no doubt sooner or later the lads here will come up with something.

    Chris,

I gather you’re either using someone else’s computer for Web browsing and want PDF tutorials so you can copy them and read them on your own computer – or you just don’t like learning from video tutorials! Am I right? 🙂

Personally, I prefer videos because you can see what happens. But to each his own.

Glad to hear you’re picking it up. Good way to learn, too. Trial and error.

When you say “brushes”, I take it you mean “particle shapes”? If so, here’s a link to a tutorial about making those little critters in Photoshop. You can probably make them in other graphics apps, too.

This one is a text-based tutorial. Below is the link.

    Thanks, Alan. That works fine.

    Thanks, Lee.

That feature isn’t in SE, is it, Alan? Only Ver.3?
