I think you’ll have to create a new preset in Compressor for .wmv.

As for the sync issues, I’d check your sequence’s sample rate, and check your output sample rate. If they’re the same, I’ve got no idea. If they’re different, try making them the same.

    Best of luck.

there should be a box you can check that says “Reconnect all media in this directory”, and that should do it, provided FCP thinks its offline.

you can indeed adjust how each shot is cropped, you can even tween it so that the shot’s composition changes to match the action in the frame. Trouble with this is, you’ll basically have to do this shot-for-shot.

I’d advise copying and pasting your entire project into a new sequence with the “Anamorphic” box checked. Check the box BEFORE you paste, then use the motion functions to resize and adjust the framing on each shot as you go. This will take a bit, but it’ll also give you the best quality for DVD – there’s nothing more annoying than putting in a letterboxed DVD if you have a 16X9 TV, which most people do nowadyas.

Sadly, with an iMac, your only output methods can be a file export (like you did to DVD, but you could theoretically take a bounced QT of the video to another post house and lay it to tape), or a firewire export using some sort of intermediary widget, such as the camera you shot the video on and captured to your computer with in the first place. You could hook the camera up to the deck via S-Video and stereo audio RCA cables, and the computer up to the camera via your firewire, and let ‘er rip. Another thing you could theoretically do, is use the S-video output from your computer (as I recall, it should have a mini-VGA output, you should be able to get an adapter for mini-VGA to S-Video) to the deck, and run a 1/8th inch stereo to RCA cable from your headphone jack to the deck’s input for sound.

  • s’ok, I just did it off the timeline – I don’t have an RS-422 adapter handy at the moment.

Thanks to everyone for your help!!

  • By jove, you’ve got it! I tested my record, and all’s well.

…now if I could just get “print to video” to actually work…

that’s a BIG can of worms, and something I did quite a bit of reading about here:

    https://www.macgurus.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=ef0300267ee90d1e17d1800841dad339&f=5

that’s a wealth of knowledge, and it’ll help you decide what’s right for you, and for your particular system – there are lots of factors to consider, such as L3 cache, bus speed, etc.

    best of luck,
    Kris

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I’ve had a hard time finding information on what kind of bandwidth 10 bit uncompressed 1080P @23.98 was going to require… Suffice to say, I’m thinking that my workflow is going to have to adjust around that.

    Thanks again,

    Kris

  • Of note:

    According to http://www.taperesources.com:

What’s the difference in Panasonic’s new “Master” Series miniDV?
Panasonic’s new Master MQ series of miniDV uses their S-AME technology (Super Advanced Metal Evaporation) to provide 4 times the magnetic particles by reducing the size. It provides a 1db better output as well as a 1db better S/N ratio than the standard PQ series. In addition they claim to have the lowest headwear using their tape.

This couldn’t possibly account for the problem, could it?

    thanks all,
    Kristoffer
