This will not work. We currently do not support DVI capture with a HDMI adapter.

Hi Michael,

At any point during the attempts to capture, is your HDMI cable still attached to the set top box? This box does not output component and HDMI at the same time. I suspect that when both cables are attached, it defaults to digital mode and outputs via HDMI which could be the reason why you’re not able to capture via component as it is switched off.

I tested this here and it worked fine with VirtualDub so I’m not sure what is going on.

Can you elaborate more about what you’re doing? We also need more information before we can try and troubleshoot. For example, what kind of files you’re starting with, what formats you’re compressing it to? What version of drivers do you have installed? What version of VirtualDub was used?

Are you on a G5 or Mac Pro?

If you’re using a Mac Pro, make sure that:

1) card is in the top slot
2) Expansion Slot Utility (/System/Library/CoreServices) is set to Profile 2.

There are 2 LEDs on the HDLink. Which one is blinking? The one on the left of the USB port blinks when you’re connected via USB. The one on the right should only blink when it detects a 4:4:4 signal. If you have a valid SDI 4:2:2 signal going into the HDLink, the LED on the right should stay lit.

The message on that Final Cut Pro is providing is the worrying part though. It indicates that the hardware is not detected. You need to check your system profile to see if the card is being seen. You can also check the DeckLink preferences (in System Preferences) and see if it sees your card.

Hi Zach,

You can narrow down the issue by capturing DVCPRO HD to your internal drive or a firewire drive. If that is ok, then it’s most likely an issue with the Xserve RAID or the RAID host adapter.

You can also try capturing with Blackmagic Deck Control instead of Final Cut Pro to rule out any issues with Final Cut Pro.

What specific card is this?

Can you also tell me what happens to the resulting capture file especially when the capture “freezes”?
