    Hi Chris,

    Short answer, yes.

The only reason Media100 HD has an issue with FCP is over the Kona card drivers. No Kona card, no problems.

    Hi Joyce

[Joyce Quick] “so you are saying it goes in (hdv) but it doesn’t go out?”

No, it doesn’t go in HDV at all. I think you are confusing HDV (a codec and a way of storing ‘high definition’ video in a long-gop mpeg 2 variant) with the general concept of HD video.

Other systems like FCP can import/export the HDV data stream directly over the firewire, but Media 100 cannot. It can only digitise/master HD video via HD-SDI.

What I suspect you are doing is hooking your Media 100 up to the HD-SDI out of your HVR1500 deck. In this instance your deck is converting the HDV data to HD-SDI video for you.

What your deck lacks is that functionality the other way around. All it can do is record a HDV data stream via firewire, which Media 100 cannot provide because it never had it in the first place. As Michael said, the only way to master HD out of a Media 100 is to use a deck that supports HD-SDI in.

    Hi Floh,

    Yes, 12.1.3 and RED 4.2.1.

The interesting thing is that RED reports the project settings to be 720×576 PAL DV D1. Could the fact that DV is an interlaced codec have some bearing if RED still thinks that is how footage should be treated or is that just a reference to the pixel size (though isn’t that what the D1 is for?)

    Hi Felix,

Could I get a copy of the project file? I could test it on my set-up and see if I get the same result as you.

    Hi Dave,

No worries, I’ve been getting around this by exporting a single framed Targa sequence, which works OK.

I’m also happy because the update fixed some other issues I’ve been having.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Felix,

I’ve just installed RED 4.2.1 and that seems (from my limited tests this morning) to have fixed this problem.

February 18, 2008 at 9:18 pm in reply to: How to import photo files from Media 100 bins to Red?

    Hi Jerome,

In Red, create a track and change its media type (i.e. Text(T), V1 etc) to “Media 100 Bin Browser”. That will open up a bin browser where you can select what you need. Be warned though the process is slooooow.

On a side note though, it is generally better to import photos directly into RED so you can scale, move etc with the higher resolution media.
