    Hi folks,

I’m using RED 4.2 in FCP to create some DVD menus. I tend to use a colour shape, cropped to the right size as a DVD overlay, which I then export as a PICT using the Export Current Frame option.

This used to work fine, but recently doing so exports the whole shape, not just the cropped section.

I got around it by exporting a Targa Sequence, but that’s a lot of faff, any reason why the above shouldn’t work? Is this a bug?

    Hi Kieran,

Try downloading the RED 4.2.1 update. There was a cropping bug that was fixed in the update that sounds like what you’re experiencing.

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Just downloaded the update and the problem is still there.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Kieran,

Sorry, I thought this was fixed but it is still broken in the current release. We are aware of it and it will get taken care of.

In the mean time you can create a spline mask for the color shape and export that as a single frame. I just tested that and am certain it works.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

No worries, I’ve been getting around this by exporting a single framed Targa sequence, which works OK.

I’m also happy because the update fixed some other issues I’ve been having.

    Thanks again for your help.
