Hi Pat,
It’s not a lost cause by any means. If your OSX FCP system is PPC then you can download the media100 software codecs and install them there. You could then export as a selfcontained file from media 100 and use Compressor to make your Mpeg4s (or QT Pro etc etc). You would have to be careful over Media 100’s colourspace (the old 16-235 versus 0-255) but it is certainly doable.

Hi Ajmetz,
Hbvideo was refering to cut & paste attributes, taking the properties associated with one clip (nodes, opacity, filters, geometry etc) and applying it to another. FCP has this feature.
Media 100 does have the ability to do most of what this function does already. Currently you can use the replace media function, with the video and audio disabled to copy the attributes, Colour FX, motion FX, audio nodes etc between clips.
V12 promises a step closer to FCP’s clip based filtering with Boris effects being directly applied to the clip, so I guess these effects will be added to the ‘replace’ list

I’m sorry, but I have to ask, are you sure your 500 is capable of recording input from the firewire connector?
All the manuals I have looked at on the net have the 500’s firewire down as output only.
The only other way to check M100i is outputting video over the DV out would be to connect it to another device, like another camera or a DVD recorder etc.

When you open the master to tape window, is the DV checkbox at the top engaged?
Without this everything works but without an AV signal. I know I have missed it from time to time!

Hi Nickel,
For the last three years I have been storing all the media from my projects on portable harddrives. I discovered that most of my clients want to constantly update projects – making a tweak here, changing a grpahic there – so this has been invaluable.
I also had a bad experience with the first generation of recordable DVDs where the discs blanked themselves wiping out a year’s worth of work. So compared with that, the harddrives are reliable enough for me.
I use whatever hardrive is on offer at the time, mainly Western Digital and the like, but check that they offer a suitable guarantee. I use 320Gb drives as I feel that they are resonably mature technology now, and if one were to fail, the loss would be more acceptable than say 500 or 750Gb – eggs and baskets so to speak. Critical media is backed-up to two different drives, and I always store the project files separately on CD off-site.
For my own sanity I check the drives regularly and move the data around.

Hi Thomas,
I just tried and it works for me.
Video clip in V (or V1,V2 etc), drag a RED comp in the V track above. Edit and set the track to be V1. Apply the motion stabilizer. Apply and render.
Which version of Media 100 and RED are you using?

Hi Ajmetz,
I’m trying to remember whether 7.5 has the master audio bus at the bottom of the timeline? I have a sinking feeling that it doesn’t.
If it does, that can be used for global level changes and with Master audio clips, global audio EQ and effect.

Hi Paul,
16:9 & 4:3 dvd files are both still just 720×576 (or 486) only the aspect ratio changes and that’s just a flag in the final mpeg2 file.
So all you need to do is export (by-ref) as normal from the media 100 timeline, open this file in Bitvice, set the encoding options (Remember the Studio RGB!) and then in the aspect ratio drop down menu at the bottom, set it to 16:9.
QT or DVDSP etc will now recognise the resulting m2v as 16:9 and adjust the aspect ratio accordingly.

Just a quick question, are you enabling audio in the audio tab? It is off by default in the presets.
