    Hi Peter,

Thanks for the info. It is a shame about the DE filters as I use the electrical arcs effect quite a lot.

    Hi Michael,

Aha! So I’m not going mad! But what still remains a mystery is why the first hire two weeks ago went without a hitch, and this one worked, but only after fighting with it for hours.

I reckon there’s a bug in the routine when Media 100 interogates the deck over the firewire to get its ID (for that drop down menu in the preferences). It might be a “luck of the draw” situation as to whether it correctly guesses the standard.

I’m guessing this is a PAL issue, as I doubt it causes a problem if the material is actually NTSC

Thanks for the heads-up and for the workaround!

    Hi Scott,

DVCPro50 in media100, though as I mentioned it really seems to be a RED issue as Media 100 does go up to 75% when it is doing its own thing.

    Hi Stephen,

Having installed RED3, its filters along with the DE ones have appeared in the library-application support-borisFX folder.

Where do I need to put them so 4.1 can recognise them?

Incidentally RED3 see’s all of 4.1’s filters, just not the other way round.

    Thanks again

    Hi Doug,

I also have 4.1 running on a 4-core Mac Pro and get the same results as you.

Very disappointing to see this happening especially as some effects seem to be just as slow as they were in 3 on a G4!

    Hi Floh,

    I’m using a Quad 3Ghz Intel.

It’s deffo RED though, just done a test in standalone mode and it still won’t go above 25% with all guns blazing.

Ah, it might be a RED thing. Just tried rendering a video layer and it cracked along, with usage up to 75%.

    Hi Floh,

Well, I downloaded 11.6.3 and Red 4.1.5 and nope, still rendering at 25% and just as slowly, (rendering a title containing an extruded EPS of a logo).

Any ideas as to whether this is a problem with my machine, or set-up, or whether this is to be expected?

    Hi Tankboy,

If you are bringing m2vs etc into DVDSP then it does no further encoding and just multiplexes the files.

As to the softer/jaggier look, this could be either a scaling issue, or to do with field dominance, or both.

Check that the field order coming out of your media100 matches the settings in compressor and the desired output for (NTSC?) DVD.

Also check the output frame size is correct especially the vertical height. I believe there is a problem with 480 versus 486 height – the scaling producing issues.

It could be something else entirely, but there are two things to look at initially.
