What if you turn off background rendering and have clips with color corrections applied and then simply send to Compressor?
What happens to those clips? I’m assuming FCP doesn’t render them to ProRes before the handoff.

Couldn’t you use the FCP X Placement tool to put your audio on those “tracks”? Assign the appropriate Role to the audio and then export the Roles?
I’m guessing that doesn’t produce the same result?

Sohrab had an idea he thought would be interesting to talk about.
It seemed like he was having a hard time finding someone who was interested in a constructive conversation.
I attempted to make light of all the negative (some of it 100%) feedback Sohrab was getting. I didn’t want to offend. So if I did, I’m sorry for that.

I had a project where FCP X encountered a Modified File issue. All the edits that were done with that file had to be redone. (or have the clip replaced)
Time Machine did not fix this issue. I tried. I went back to several versions of the file and the Modified Media never went away. So be cautious of that. I even had Apple on the phone. Didn’t work.
Duplicating projects is the only way (at least that I know of) to save yourself from loosing your work, in the event (no pun intended) of a crash and corruption of your work.
Archiving your work, I’d suggest you use FCP X’s consolidate features.
I’d also suggest using Steve Martin’s suggested method of using Disk Images to manage your Events/Projects. It keeps things well organized. It allows you to open as many, or as few Events/Projects at a time. And it makes it’s easy to back up.

Several companies walk into a bar and start talking about out how they could make a phone you could use just about anywhere.
Sitting at a table near them are some members of an elite group called the Creative Chickens. They overhear the companies talking about their idea and decide to give their opinion.
I don’t think you thought this idea through very well.
Do you know how stupid you’d look walking down the street talking on a phone?
Stop making a phone out to be more than it is.
Working in silence is preferable.

Yeah, quite the time saver.
Using a phone at home is just about the right level of phone usage.
To make a phone work for talking just about anywhere, you’d need a pretty stripped down phone.
You’d look like a big green Kool-Aid guy.

Several years later, the Creative Chicken members are sitting in the same bar. Each one of them is talking to someone else on a phone they can use just about anywhere.
Another group of companies walks into the bar. They have an idea where you could use a phone just about anywhere, without having to talk into the phone. You can just put a little speaker and mic in your ear.
Once again, the Creative Chickens step in and decide to give their opinion.

You would think Lion, with Resume, Auto Save and Versions, it would help this out. But I have yet to see it happen.
It appears that FCP X has it’s own auto-save-most-of-the-time feature and doesn’t seem to utilize Lion’s feature.
There doesn’t seem to be any Versions support either. There only seems to be one Currnetversion.fcpproject file.
For me, the biggest impact Lion has made in this area is the removal of Save As …
Save As … is probably one of the oldest features I can think of. Apple has (once again) chosen to think different. Now, instead of saving a file with a new name (or your own idea of a versions number) you can Duplicate or Export the file.

I forgot about that. I believe Michael is correct, you need to make sure your camera has the latest FW.
In the release notes you they do post some limitations. You can’t record slow motion with the media adapter. You need SxS cards.

It may not be compatible with the EX1. The cards need to be fast enough to support the bit rate.

Be careful about installing non-Apple SSD’s in an iMac. I’m not an iMac user, but I believe they have non-standard HDD’s in their iMacs that have some firmware on them such that an off the shelf HDD will cause issues. I’m not sure if that’s the case for SSDs or not in iMacs. Plus, I thought SSD in an iMac was a memory card, not a 2.5″ SSD drive.

Also, note that there is a white paper link on FCP X towards the bottom that talks about how FCP X uses and can benefit from various HW configurations.
The SSD drive will improve things like; boot time, wake from sleep, launch and install applications, running things like repair permissions. I doubt you will see much gain when it comes to running applications like FCP X. Plus, the speed of the Apple SSD drive is not as fast as SSD drives you can get from places like OWC.
But you will get more for your money on an i7 upgrade over an i5, as opposed to getting an SSD drive. Plus, when you upgrade to an i7 you can upgrade the graphics as well. Including going to 1 GB or even 2GB of GDDR5 memory. Note that the i7 iMac in the Barefeats test has the 6970 GPU and 2 GB of memory. It’s keeping pace with what is probably the fastest Mac Pro you can get today. (until you buy and Mac Pro, then Apple will finally release a new Mac Pro, maybe, hopefully, then again …)
