You might want to use iPhoto 5 for this. FCP won’t do this automatically. iPhoto, however, will do that and output a quicktime which you can drop into FCP. Otherwise, you have to do this by hand – dividing the duration of the song by the amount of stills. Fit to Fill won’t work for you in this way because it’s only for one clip at a time, not multiple stills.

Sit down for an hour or two with someone that knows both systems. Nothing, and I mean nothing beats 1 on 1 training.
I was able to transpose most duties within a few hours of messing around on my own. It’s like Avid, but without modes. There is also a book “Final Cut Pro for Avid Editors” that you might want to check out. The editor for my book worked on that one.

Sync Problems?
Your drives are too slow.
Your clips are too long.I suggest internal HDs for capture, playback and output. Although they work for some people, FireWire drives are not relible for many people. Apple does not recommend them.
I suggest to capture clips in scene and take, not an entire tape at at time.
Although scene and take used to be the norm, but with larger drives and many “self -trained editors” not knowing what even “the norm” is – many people try to capture an entire tape…and then wonder why they had sync problems.Scene and Take! Slow and steady wins the race.

The lower end Kona card will not allow this. Normally, you have to digitize in D>A composite or s-video to gain control of those controls as they are for analog. If the controls are grayed out for Component or SDI, then that is normal. At least that’s my experience.

First things first. You need to use the HDV Easy Setup, not the one for DVCPro HD. Totally different format. Try that and see if that doesn’t get you going.

I’ve always spun up drives prior to launch. Everything I do with drives stems from my extensive training program with Avid. An ACSR taught me to always spin up drives prior to launch, so that’s what I do. Why?
A) I blindly follow the advice of the purple gods.
B) I have never fried a media drive’s directory.Glad to see you’ve had no trouble old chum. The spec does indicate that you can hot swap drives – I don’t do that because I’m just too conservative/paranoid coming from the world of SCSI and 4GB drive sleds. I handle FireWire drives the way I handled those old sleds, and you better believe we spun those babies up before boothing and unmounted before shut down. 😉

Animation codec should not be used for playback, it’s only an intermediary codec. You need to find a codec with a lower data rate that can handle an odd frame size if you want to play it back.
