Ric is right! We have been testing Excalibur 6 as well. Ed has done a fantastic job on this one. New features, improved features, user friendly GUI, the list is too long to detail. The best part of Ed’s product is the fact that he is always finding ways to make it better. If you edit with Vegas you should have Excalibur!
Ed, thanks for making our job easier!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Ric, I did find that 1394 NIC/Network card was enabled. I disabled it and the problem was still there. I was caputuring to my internal “f” drive, and this is the drive that will capture perfectly with U-Lead. I decided to switch my capture location to an external Lacie 500Gb firewire 800 drive and BINGO…ZERO dropped frames using Vegas! Thanks for your help.
Ric, I owe you a voice over. drop me a line with a script.

Ric, yes, I’m using firewire and as a long time professional user of Vegas (we have 4 systems) there is nothing unusual about the work flow. It definately seems to be an issue with Vegas 7 capture. I have unistalled and reinstalled 3 time to no avail.I’m stumped!

I have used Digital Juice products for years, going back to their first package with my old Fast Electronics Video Machine. I think it is great stuff! Their newer products are pretty much turnkey and you can also “customize” most of them. With Vegas it is a one step event to set the alpha channel on the DJ track. Simply right click and adujust track properties. Their products are very clean and always look great. They also have combinations of Masks, motion backgrounds and stills that allow you to use the same theme through out a project. They also have a very good stock footage library and sound effects library. All Digital Juice products are “buy-out” and much less expensive than most others. If you do weddings I suggest their “Wedding” Editor’s Tool Kit for a start. Their free “Juicer” program also makes it very easy to find and preview all their products.

Ric et al. I am by no means “Dissing” Douglas or anyone. I totally respect “Spot’s” suggestions. Mr Mason is a true professional and as such has his favorites he has used and learned to use. I spoke to the issue of someone who is trying to improve his overall sound with the least expense and tribulations. A Shotgun mic is not easy to use for the average person trying to do a quality V/O. I offered a professional opinion on a cost effective way to do consistant quality V/O’s. I’d be glad to offer you a sample if you like, drop me an E-mail. My work, over the past 30 years, includes Anheuser Busch, Voice of America, Armed Forces Network, numerous European and American radio and TV stations, Monsanto, the Orlando Magic, CBS and more. I have my own acquired ways over the years, but a shotgun mic for V/O’s is not one of them (unless I’m in the field) but if it works for someonelse, so be it.
I did offer a low cost suggestion for a regular guy to do great voice work.
I did not mean to ruffle anyones feathers…no pun intetended. Love Ya Spot!
    Peace

Shotguns will work in a pinch and/or if you know what you are doing. Otherwise you will find yourself “off mike” a lot more than you like. The reason radio stations, and studios, use the RE-20 and the MD-421 is that they are very good quality and very forgiving as to microphone technic while still giving you rejection of unwanted room sound. Especially the MD-421. I say again, look at the Heil PR-40. It fits in an RE-20 shock mount sounds better and is half the price. It is a dynamic mic, so it does not need phantom power. This comes from a guy who has built audio systems for the Gratefull Dead. Designed and built the “quad” system for the Who’s “Quadraphinia” tour and is currently working with “Tool” on their on-the-road sound. He has a permanent display of his audio equipement in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and more. Check out his line of mics and save yourself some money over the name brands, without sacrificing quality!

The Re-20 is a very smooth mic but the Heil PR40 will fit in the same schock mount and the sound will blow it away….at about half the price.
By the way, Bob Heil is the man who perfected the “talk box” talking guitar for Peter Frampton, Joe Walsh, Etc. He also designed the “quad” PA system for the who to do their Quadraphinia tour. He also has a permanent display of his contibutions to the field of audio in the R & R Hall of Fame.
He know what he is doing and his series of microphones are superb, especially for the price. They simply blow away those well known names!!

I was always a fan of the MD421 and an Electro voice RE20, BUT…I have since put those and an Audio Techinca condenser mic back on the shelf.
Check out http://www.heilsound.com and look at the PR30 & PR40. The PR40 was used in “Flags of our Fathers”. It is much less costly and out performs those I just mentioned. I use it for all of my voice over work which includes the Staten Islnad Ferry, the GoldenGate ferry and many national spots. It is also available through Broadcast Store WWest.
It is an exquisite VO mic.
There is also a small hand held mic (about 4 inches long) that is a great field mic. My wife and I use it on our travel radio and cable tv shows. Its bullet proof and sells for about a $100.
