Thanks Tim. When I enter “sudo -s” I get this in return:
Echo:~ echo$ sudo -s
>>> /private/etc/sudoers.d/BRUExemptions: Alias “BRU_CMDS” already defined near line 2 <<<
sudo: parse error in /private/etc/sudoers.d/BRUExemptions near line 2
sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting
sudo: unable to initialize policy plugin
Echo:~ echo$ visudo
visudo: /etc/sudoers: Permission denied
One other thought. Does BRU PE 3.2.6 Build 80 support APFS?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Neil,
BRU PE 3.2.6 80 and MacOS 10.13.6
Thanks.

Enrique, do as Bob suggests above. For LTFS use Imagine’s PreRollPost rather than the free HP StoreOpen download. BRU and PreRollPost are well worth the money, we’ve used them both extensively.

Hi Neil,
I know they are working on this very issue right now, dealing with large databases, and an updated version is forthcoming. I’ll let Dan fill you in on the specifics. They are VERY responsive to customer input and issues.

It’s issues like this that make using PreRollPost much more reliable than the Finder for backing up to and restoring from LTO-5. If you already have it, I’d use it for all LTFS transfers. Frankly surprised you haven’t had issues before.

There is quite a bit of discussion about PreRollPost in this forum. I posted this user review a little over a year ago:

Check and make sure you don’t have “Gang to Reference Monitor” enabled.

Have you tried a new CC project and importing the files into it instead of the CS6 upgraded project? Also, we find it works best to transcode to ProRes if you’re doing a major edit- a little more hassle on the front end (not much!) but way easier during and after the edit.

January 18, 2014 at 5:15 am in reply to: Purchase decisions between BRU Producer Edition or Image Products PreRoll PostSam,
We’ve used both BRU PE and PreRollPost. We had numerous issues with BRU PE over the couple of years we used it, the software’s GUI is really inconsistent and buggy, and when you build up a good size library of archives, it takes forever for the program to load. PreRollPost uses LTFS, an open standard that is becoming more and more widely adopted, does provide MD5 checksum verification, and orders the files for quick backup and restore, and stores archive data in a MySQL Lite format, which is searchable within the application. If you’ve used the bare bones software HP or IBM provide, this is a different animal altogether. The program has improved in the past year quite a bit and they are very responsive to user feedback.
Most of the responders in the forum have a dog in the hunt, so to say. I’m just a user and have been using tape backup products for 15+ years or more. PRP might not be right for you, but people should definitely try it out before dismissing LTFS altogether. Along with BRU PE, it’s really the most economical solution.

August 8, 2013 at 12:53 am in reply to: Tandberg LTO5 + Atto HBA + Mac + LFTS = reasonable?I definitely wouldn’t recommend using LTFS with the barebones software packages distributed by HP and IBM, at least on a Mac. That is the cheap way to go, but I think if you tried it awhile you’d be disappointed. But in the $500 range you could use PreRollPost, as Bob mentioned, which makes LTFS much more effective and eliminates many of the pitfalls mentioned in the BRU article Tim linked to. And of course, for about the same price there’s BRU, but don’t plan to use it for LTFS, best to use BRU format if you go that route. Retrospect is a little more expensive, but its a proprietary format as well, and not as user friendly.
Archiving to tape is a good thing, all of these products have demos available, so try them out and see what works best for you.
