sorry, i guess you mentioned the codec…

but it still may be an issue with quicktime. did you notice the problem before with cs3, or have you updated anything recently? if you just installed cs3, you may want to see if quicktime is up to date. there is also an update for cs3 to 8.0.1.

it’s a little hard to say without knowing the file type and codec used, platform and os may be helpfule too.

my best guess would be a problem with quicktime or the codec/file type. can you drag in other types of video files (avi, dv, mov)?

white edges seems a little unusual for keylight… can you figure out with layer has the edges by hiding them one by one?

it’s not you track matte layer is it? once defined as a track matte, it should remain hidden.

actually, if you set the comp frame rate to one third, you could ram preview to see what the footage would look like at that rate, and make modifications if need.

so try a comp rate of 10 fps, if you need it jerkier try 6, etc…

i think if you were to render an image sequence, but set the frame rate in the render settings to one third of the comp’s rate, you would get every third frame rendered.

remember, rendering graphics to be keyed in an nle, when you set your output module to render rgb + alpha and millions+, set the color to straight (unmatted). that way you’ll avoid the black fringe/halo effect and save a step trying to remove it in your nle.

    mistaken again….

free updates are only for particular, lux, sound keys and echo space…. shine, starglow and 3d stroke seem to require purchase of the latest versions.

i was mistaken by mentioning trapcode effects required a purchase of the latest upgrade to be cs3/intel-mac compatible…. you can download the updates for the earlier versions from red giant, here. scroll down to downloads & updates.

i think i get it… i also think i understand the problem with keylight… keylight is looking for a mask (like the vector mask you add to a layer) not the matte that you have created, but that’s no a big deal.

you can use the matte that you have as a track matte for the footage. just place the matte above the footage. then from the ‘modes’ panel (of modes/swithces) set the footage layer to use the lumanence of the matte layer above it as a track matte.

if you were hoping to use keylight to ‘finesse’ the edges a bit, but the high-con to act as a core matte, then do the above, but then, on a duplicate of the footage, w/o the trakcmatte, apply keylight to try and enhance the edges, not worring aout the inside matte that was taken care of by the core matte.

or when you render out of ae, click the render settings, and set the render to use fields and the appropriate dominance. that way if you add any graphics, they will be interlaced too, and it you use any effects that would effect the fields, like a blur or choking a matte, then those will be done on deinterlaced footage, then reinterlaced at render.

if you work a lot with interlaced footage, and need to output as such, save a render setting with field render on, that way it’s easy to select when you need it.
