Following up on this thread. When I assign short cut to favorite filters, the shortcut gives me just the first filter inside a folder of filters which is first in line in my favorites list in the browser. Is there any way I can have the entire folder of filters assessable with the shortcut command.
Many thanks and happy New Year to all.

Thank you Tima dn Frank. This is a huge time saver. I guess I just have to remember the description for each folder of filters.
Hmmm. Paybe I can write in the appropriate shortcut in the description of each folder in the browser.
Thanks and again for putting me on trak. Happy holidays!!!!!

Thanks for posting back Shane. Pity there’s no way around that. It would be nice to look through two reels at the saem time and maybe be able to tab between them to mnake either active – that way I could see roughly what shots are matching as I go.
There’s a lot of wristwork inviled in repeatedly opening each clip into the clip too so it would definitely be a nice feature.
Again many thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Thank you Tim,
I did end up doing that myself and it seems to work fine (even though you have to sync twice, once for the multicams and againf or the sourse sound).
I thought I heard or read somewhere that you could pick one track from the individual traks of a multicam sequence which would be helpful just to get an even sound reference (I was cutting a wedding ceremony and was intercutting from one location to the other but it was difficult to get a sence of the scenes being the same time with isolated sounds. It all comes together when you sync in all the cameras’ sound later but it would be a nice reference to have while editing. Actually I noticed I had a few second drift also in the multicam sequence which is a drag. For some reason the sound track had a 97% speed (no idea why).
Again many thanks for your feedback.

Hi Chris,
Many thanks for posting back. If I slow the master clip to say 50%, then only half the media will appear in the viewer. I’m trying to figure out a way to slow master clips and have still run their full lenght, not be shortened to the extent that I’m applying the speed change.
So far the only thing I can think of is to export the master clips at the slowed down speed, then re-import, but that would take days so I’m hoping there’s a setting that I’m not seeing.
Again many thanks,
Kevin

Hi Max,
I went with a quad G5 and not the server. It seems to be enough for my purposes now with two 500 gig drives raided. I also got the OSX server software which I’ll learn more about as I go. Going with gigonet for now too. I have four workstations so the fiberchannel cards would be a little too costly for now but I will reapproach them when I get more into a HD workflow.
Holler back if I can help with anything else.
Warmest,
Kevin

Hi Noah and thanks for posting back,
I see the DVXuser.com batteries are rated at 5600mAh for 5 hours play verus the one I got from Power200 which is rated at 600mah for 10 hours play.
Does that sound right?
Many thanks,
Kevin

October 27, 2005 at 9:05 pm in reply to: Render Error – file is in use by this or another app. Thanks to all for the feedback. I think I have gotten past the poblem by deleting and rerendering all audio.
I’m sure I did have some media re-purposed, copied from one sequence and further modified in another but I’ve been doing that since FCP and never found it a problem before.
I narrowed down the problem by mixing down each sequance first before nesting them to a master sequence and then I went ahead and mix that master down also and it all seemed to go through OK. Thank goodness, that was almost a full days work figuring that one out.
Again many thanks for you help.

Thank you Todd and Mark,
My needs would be less to haev people working on a project simultaneously, but I would like to be able to access and work from a server from several workstations.
Also I was thinking of creating a standard desktop applescript droplet to give to any editors working out of the studio which would upload their project file in a specific folder and in consident time and date order.
I was hoping then to be able to periodically open the project folder, recoonect the media to the media copy on the drive and check on the progress of a cut.
I guess for my purposes it seems like using a G5 with one TB (with an expansion kit) would be the cheapest entry point to this kind of set up. Also I need to investigate cards and fiber otic cable for the fasttest playback.
I could prpbably get the G5 server rendering also by having FCP run locally on it and leave auto render on.
Thanks to you both for your great feedback.
Warmest,
K.

October 18, 2005 at 9:37 pm in reply to: Aumating shot selection, speed and building a sequqnce….Hi Jeery,
Following up on our earlier thread, is there any way, when working with a clip running at 25% in the viewer to have clip inserted at 3:00 secs into the time line.
I am inputting the 3:00 sec timecode in each time now.
Wondering if there’s any way to have that 3.00 setting remain constant and for the end point to automatically be set three second from the in point.
Many thanks again for all your great input.
Also can you advise me if it’s possible to automate in FCP. You said earlier that it’s not scriptable as an app, but I’m wondering if there’s a sepcific FCP scripting langaauge, I might be able to accomplish the above task in.
Many thanks and warm regards,
kevin
