Thanks Jerry for posting back. That’s a shame about FCP not being scriptable. I thought all Apple’s apps were. Oh well.
Isn’t there a separate FCP language (that pluggins are written in). Maybe that an avenue to discover.
I routinely create a similar project – a video montage which has x number of slips, 3 secs long and 25% speed.
I would save an early visit to the carpels syndrome clinit if I could scrub the time line and be able to hit a key which gives me the above from the playhead into the time line. I could then finish a project by slipping and fine tuning the shots.

Can you explain this more. I would set the speed setting in the viewer? When I do this the whole hour off media I'm working with runs ar 25%. I guess I would have to change this back to 100% if I wanted to listen to audio as I scrub through. But already what you've thought me I can tell is going to really speed up the process for me.
