If you turn on Dupe Detection in the hamburger menu of your sequence, a red line will appear on any clip that is used more than once. [/quote]

Only if those clips are on V1 and rarely in a project do you have all your shots lined up on V1

You could put your sequence into it’s own Bin, set your Bin Display to show Reference Clips then color code all the clips in the bin.

the only caveat with that is that if you have a large master clip containing multiple b-roll shots (ABCDEFGH) and you only use “D”. then the whole clip will be colored. Which will make the other editor think they couldn’t use shot C or H or whatever.

It really depends on how organized you were when setting up the project to start. If you subclipped the b-roll shots from the Master Clip, then if you color the subs, the Master will not take on the sub’s coloring.

So, did the client put the actual Avid media files on the drive? (ie, longstringoflettersandnumbers.mxf)

Or did they just give you the bins? (ie, binname.avb)

Do you have the Source files? (ie, .mov, .jpg)

Are you selecting one of the clips in the Bin before trying to click Batch Import?

You can import .psd files, but any effects (ie, drop shadow) won’t be carried over) I like .png files.

June 25, 2009 at 1:49 pm in reply to: Underscores in File names

You certainly can use underscores in file names – filenames are a function of the OS, not the Avid software anyway.

It is actually recommended by Avid that you use underscores in Workspace names when using Unity in a Mac environment.

Is your co-worker on the PC and you on the Mac or vice versa?

If she is on the PC then she should be aware that files created on a Mac will appear to show two instances of the same file one named “filename.mov” and another file named “._filename.mov” The one with the “._” is unreadable to the PC and may be what she’s doing. I’ve never tried it, but I’d imagine that removing the ._ in the filename would allow it to work correctly. But, in truth the correct file should be there and she should just ignore the ._ files.

June 6, 2009 at 10:03 pm in reply to: Media 100 to Avid?

Actually, that was one of the suggestions made – I think that there is a free trial of the latest version that may work for 14 days.

That may end up being the path of least resistance.

    Thanks

  • FreeDV? That was EOL’d a number of years ago. Where/how did you get a copy of that?

FYI, Avid now has a 14-day Free Trial of Media Composer.

EDIT: I just read another one of your posts explaining that you got FreeDV from a book. Sorry.

I’m also wanting to write data to a F75 for backups from a Unity and am looking into what my options are.

I am “subscribing” to this thread by responding here.

If anyone has gotten this to work, I’d appreciate your input.

May 8, 2009 at 4:36 am in reply to: Boosting Audio Levels

What I usually do is crank it to about 10 in the Mixer, then I’ll use automation gain to boost it a bit more. If that’s still too low, then I’ll double the track and adjust further. If that’s still too low, then I call the audio guy and give him an earful.

Thanks for clarifying … many users don’t know the limitations on the Academic license, (other NLE’s don’t have such restrictions I’ve heard)

But, in the end, he should be all set.
