Just wondering everyone’s thoughts on the best (both speed and quality) encoding workflow from the MC timeline to Mpeg2. Don’t have Sorenson squeeze as this is an academic copy of Avid. I’m looking at Procoder 3 or Tmpgenc – client doesn’t want to spend the $500 for Sorenson.
    Suggested workflow so far:
    1) lock edit
    2) duplicate sequence
    3) mixdown
    4) replace sequence with mixdown
    5) export qt ref movie
    6) qt ref movie through 3rd party encoder

Am I on the right track? What’s the best encoder?
I’m a FCP guy, so I don’t know all the Avid lingo, so…be nice–:)

The workflow sounds pretty much dead on what I would do.

    a) ProCoder3 is going to be $500 as well.
    b) If you’re getting paid by a “client” then you’re not supposed to be using Academic versions of Avid software in the first place.

    Thanks Kenton.

The client is using his own Avid system – and since we’ve worked with him on other things in the past, he’s contacted us again – I’m merely providing him some advice. He works for the public school system – and so he’s using an academic version of Avid.

Thanks for clarifying … many users don’t know the limitations on the Academic license, (other NLE’s don’t have such restrictions I’ve heard)

But, in the end, he should be all set.
