I thought I did select ‘move all atributes’, but just tried it again and it worked perfectly.
Thanks so much Darby and Dave for the quick responses.

    Thanks for the help Dave.

My issue is, I need to corner pin before masking, as the mask is reasonably intricate.
I’m kind of stuck trying to think of a workaround…

    any thoughts are appreciated.

I’ve been doing this a lot lately. I’d highly recommend buying Automatic Duck Pro Import AE. Edit in FCP, export the xml for work in AE, then finish there. It’s one less step of potential compression.

That makes total sense Steve, thanks. It was a silly habit not to rethink the fact that actor should be a 2D layer. Thanks a lot Steve.

The possibilities with this type of thing are pretty much endless. If you really want to take it to the next level, investigate camera projection. I think Andrew did a tutorial, and it’s also in Mark Christiansen’s book “After Effects 7.0 Studio Techniques”. I built a 30 story tower for a client, each floor being the front view each (of 30) locations. You’ll probably find that after it’s all said and done, it’ll look a bit underwhelming, as in “why didn’t you just film it?” I’d suggest planning for something to separate it from all the others before commencng.

There’s a section in the particular controls called visibility. In there, you can set an ‘obscuration layer’ which will let you choose which layers appear in front of others.

  • If you’re pressed for time, Digital Anarchy makes a plugin that randomizes text and accounts for spaces. I forget the name, but I bought it for Final Cut a while ago and it worked nicely.

If I need to do that, I just select the things I want to copy (transform, effects) for the media and copy (cmd-C). Then insert the new clip, select it and paste (cmd-V).
