    hey
any of you guys know a really good way to make an ink splatter appear?
i’m not talking about changing the expansion of a mask or filming it…

there must be some better way to do this 100% computer generated… with more realistic results…
    anyone?

Check out Riot Gear by Andrew Kramer at videocopilot.net
    There’s ink, paint, grungy stuff…
    Very useful.

You’re asking to do a fluid simulation. Ask any 3D artist about that, and the price goes up. Try a 3D app that does fluid simulations such as Maya fluid fx, Realflow or scanline flowlines.

Or use Andrew’s stuff, as Ken mentioned.

    I know videocopilot… it’s great what andrew does…
but I’m interested in something else…

check out the demo reel of this people.. the logo animates the way I was telling you… is that animated in a 3d app? maybe it is, but what is the closest to that by 2d? andrew’s?

thanks and sorry for my poor english

It looks like it was a mask drawn frame-by-frame, maybe with “hold” keyframes. It’s not very long, so there were not many frames to draw.

Using “rotobezier”, it could be drawn very quickly. Click-click-click. 🙂

I dont know any of them… could you be more specific?… how can I use “rotobezier” or “hold keyframes” in order to expand an ink through time?

    thanks a lot man

Rotobezier is a way of drawing masks. Once you click the rotobezier switch, you can draw curves just by clicking. Look in the AE Help files.

Hold keyframes make sure that an animated property (like a mask shape) does not change until you reach the next keyframe. Look in the AE Help files.

Basically, it looks as if that artist animated a mask shape. Maybe he used hold keyframes, maybe not. Anyway, check the help.

You could have done it in the time it took to wait for my reply. 🙂
