It looks like he used a clip of a paint splatter or drip as a luma matte to reveal the text. You might be able to replicate this by scaling a still of a paint splatter and using that as a matte for your text.

Already ahead of you. I have this problem with cache wiped clean. This project is not heavy by any means…15 QT movies with the largest being 90 frames long or so. I’ve worked on files 20x larger than this with many gigs of QT movies with no issues. Could it be anything else?

Have you checked out Ayato’s site? He does something with a Japanese character that mimicks the calligraphy brush strokes using illustrator and AE’s gradient wipe tool. Not sure if this will help you at all, but it is a different way of doing things.

Thanks. I was hoping to render out the 2 movies in one render so I could blur the reflection pass in AE to soften the look (and hide the jaggies). My renders are huge so I was hoping to save some time somewhere.

Off the top of my head, you could position your null in the center and the first layer at the 6 or 12 o’clock position (when viewed from the top). Once in position, apply an “Auto Orient towards the camera” to the layer. Next, duplicate the layer 15x and parent the second one to the null. Now, rotate the null on the y axis 24 degrees then parent the next layer. Repeat for rest and you should be set. Once in place, you can simply replace the layers with your final images.

    Good luck

This is quick and dirty and there is probably a better way to do it via scripting. Maybe one of the real pros here can answer. Until then, try this.

Oh, sorry. We do mostly motion graphics and the 3D we do supports our AE broadcast stuff (show opens, titles, etc).

    Thanks!

Any chance the new font you are using only all caps? Try typing in all caps and see if it appears.

Thanks to both of you. I’ll experiment a bit, but the answers are there.
