This might be a dumb question, but I’m having trouble figuring this out. I’m trying to do a multipass render of my file where I have two movies output from the one render – a movie of everything as is without reflections and a movie with only reflections. Now, I can do this if I separate everything out (reflection, diffuse, shadow, etc…) but I was hoping to just separate out the reflections. I can also do this if I do two separate renders…one with a multipass with only reflections turned on and a separate render with reflections turned off, but that means I have to render twice. When I multipass with RGBA and reflection checked, I get a correct reflection movie, but the RGBA has the reflections in there as well so no dice there either. Am I making sense? I can’t seem to figure it out and I am beginning to think it isn’t possible. Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ken

I don’t think it’s possible. AFAIK you’ll have to render all the relevant passes and then turn off the reflection pass. You could precomp everything sans reflections to tidy up the AE timeline.

Thanks. I was hoping to render out the 2 movies in one render so I could blur the reflection pass in AE to soften the look (and hide the jaggies). My renders are huge so I was hoping to save some time somewhere.

You need to render out all components separately, not just reflections. When you have diffuse, specular etc. each separate, you can control everything in compositing. The RGBA layer in that case wouzld only act as a reference for the final look.
