Right Click/Control click and choose Get Info. Then, in the window that pops up you can select Open With and choose the “Use this application to open all documents like this” click Change All

Well, within Illustrator the only other thing I know of, besides seeing the font in the drop down/palette menu is to use the Glyph palette. But, that only shows all characters rather than a word in a font.

Suitcase and most other font management apps has a viewer that you can enter custom copy and see the results.

You mean InDesign=>About InDesign…right?

The first incremental update will take InDesignCS to version 3.0.1

The second deals with shared files and will not allow InDesignCS to open a file from an updated InDesignCS (which has gone with the updated 2nd verison)

Go under Help=>Updates and see how many versions are possible to update. Have them do the same. That might tell you.

If one of you is on a Windows machine and the other a Mac and TrueType fonts are involved, that could be another.

Well, the first thing to do is really make sure that both are InDesign or InDesignCS or inDesignCS2.

I know a few people get confused with the older InDesign2 and InDesignCS or InDesignCS2.

Also, be sure you or they haven’t upgraded past an incremental upgrade.

InDesignCS has had two incremental upgrades. It could be just that.

That’s the obvious thing. Are you and they on the same platform?

I don’t know of a course….but go to http://www.totaltraining.com and have the InDesign series fedEx’d to you overnight!!

I feel your pain. Publisher? whew… so shines the problem with the desktop revolution!

I’m not aware of any simple conversions.

However, I don’t use many Microsoft products so I’m not sure how well Word, if at all, would convert the text itself.

Since any actual design will need to be redone in InDesign, perhaps you can just export the text as rich text format or even ascii from Publisher?

Or, if you can make a pdf from Publisher and import that into InDesign…
Sometimes opening a pdf within Acrobat first and saving will allow better friendliness within InDesign. Or even opening a pdf in Illustrator.

Try a different Codec. Similar problems here, even using Video (surprizingly) worked better.
