John– I just realized something else… In my project properties, I’ve been leaving “Deinterlace method” to “None”, and I think I remember one of your comments from way back that this should essentially always (?) be set to “Blend fields”.

I did, and that fixed it. Is that true that I should just do that for any interlaced footage? And, if so, why is the default “None”, and is there a way to set it and forget it in the properties list?

ps: I guess I also don’t really understand what blending fields and interpolating fields is doing, and why, if it’s a lower-field-first project, the fields need something done with them in the first place to make them do what they’re supposed to do (and have always done fine for years with other programs).

The only thing that comes to my mind off the bat is using the “Sobel” filter I’ve used in Digital Fusion, and if you mix it only about 10% (or less?) you might get something approaching that. Just a guess, though…

Yep, only in fades. Looks fine, otherwise.

And, I thought AVI was the “favored” filetype of Windows/Vegas, no?

I’m on Vegas Pro 10e, format is AVI captured from DVCAM tape, and the glitch happens both on preview and render.

    Hey Andreas–

My DVCAM deck doesn’t have firewire.

And, my bigger question is just wondering if I can selectively capture picture or sound at all (?)

For example, I just don’t need audio (and its accompanying extra filesize) for a ton of B-Roll shots.

Is there not an option either in BM or Sony Vegas?

December 22, 2011 at 6:10 am in reply to: Newly-chugging renders

So, I un-installed Digital Fusion, defragged the HD (System drive is 2TB with 49GB used, Content drive is 10TB with 500GB used)and tried rendering again:

41 seconds of SD elements with about ten layers rendered to MOV (DV/DVCPRO) took 11:37.

Same thing rendered to MPEG2 took 23:15.

26 seconds took 11:30ish for both formats.

Could someone remind me how long these should be taking? It seems like a 30-second sequence should take about a minute or so?

Any other ideas of what could be going on? My new system has barely been around the track but a few times, so it’s definitely not full and fraggy, and I haven’t altered it much at all since things were zipping along.

    Thanks,

    –Kelly

    (1) But, bummer for us Wacom tablet users…

(2)One would think “linear” would be a universal default, but alas…

    (3) Okay, great, thanks!

The same thing happens to me more often than I like (I never like).

I’ll open a saved project and there’s just some totally bogus clip being used where something else should be. Sometimes it’s fixed by just re-inserting it, sometimes I have to make a new clip, call it something else and re-insert that.

I still get audio tracks sometimes that just cut out midstream and start playing some other track from god knows where.

If you find something out about this I’d love to know about it.
