Hey Steve, here’s an easy (and unbelievable) one for you: I don’t think I’ve ever installed an outside codec before. After I download it, do I put it in a particular place, or is it an executable or something that already knows where to go?

    Hey Ever–

Those are similar specs for stations where I live, and they’ve all been fine taking MOV/H264 files, which you can make from QuicktimePRO or Sorenson Squeeze.

You might even call them and ask for other filetype options; just because they spec something doesn’t mean other stuff won’t work just as well for them. I’m finding that sometimes those specs are just something that somebody at the station “declared” one day.

    Thomas–

I’ve got the REC level on the H4N at 100%, and a normal talking voice is coming in at about -12 or -14. Maybe that’s normal/typical?

I’ve got Sennheiser wireless and an Audio-Technica condenser shotgun mic, going straight into the H4N.

Well, you just gave me a few other things to check for which I was unaware.

    Thanks Sareesh,

Jim, can you elaborate on “…even smoother editing”?

Can you not just select the block you want to move and press “1” for left and “3” for right? Also, you may have to zoom into your timeline a bit to get down to one-frame increments.

  • Thank you, John. Very, very helpful.

The light bulb has come on.

    Hey Devin–

I’ve got something very similar, but it has to do with WAV files. They’re like you describe and, for the time being, I ask for AIFF files from the audio sweetening house if I’m getting audio files from the outside. I don’t know what’s causing it, because nothing’s changed and it didn’t used to happen.

Yep, thanks John. That wasn’t meant as a “snip” at you– I just liked Stephen’s step-by-step thing to see if I’d missed something along the way of getting to where I was at the time. And, there’s always the chance I overlooked it in your post as well.
