I’ve been strolling along just fine with SVP10; everything seems peachy, very few crashes. However, there’s been one PITA thing I’ve been dealing with since install: WAV files just don’t play; they’re always corrupted.

It was suggested to test the trial version of SVP12, which I’ve just done. Same schtick. Considering that Vegas seems to like just about ANY other filetype I’ve come across, it’s a huge bummer that it (mine) won’t play one of the most vanilla flavors on the planet.

ANY ideas about what might be going on would be swell to hear.

    Thank you,

    –Kelly

Since vegas 10 and 12 has the same issue with the format,
its probably something with your system itself, a conflict
with another software or something, hard to say which.

    I use wav files frequently.
Try running one through MediaInfo to make sure it’s a compatible wav file.

Here’s one of mine that I just used in a project:
    ———————
    General
    Complete name : D:\Documents\Projects\SFX\Ducks.wav
    Format : Wave
    File size : 51.6 MiB
    Duration : 1mn 34s
Overall bit rate mode : Constant
    Overall bit rate : 4 608 Kbps

    Audio
    ID : 0
    Format : PCM
    Format settings, Endianness : Little
    Codec ID : 1
    Duration : 1mn 34s
    Bit rate mode : Constant
    Bit rate : 4 608 Kbps
    Channel(s) : 2 channels
    Sampling rate : 96.0 KHz
    Bit depth : 24 bits
    Stream size : 51.6 MiB (100%)
    ———————

You haven’t installed a codec pack, have you?

    Hey Steven,

No, no codecs installed. I’ll try what you said, but this is just so bizarre (and frustrating).

You could also post a small wav file that you’re having trouble with and let us try bringing it to the Vegas timeline.

    Stephen–

I just responded and uploaded a culprit WAV file and a corresponding “good” AIF of the same thing. I don’t see my post anywhere, so please let me know if you don’t get them and maybe I could e-mail them directly to you (?)

    They’re about 4MB.

    Thanks for your help!

When you upload a file to the forum, you get a link that you copy and paste into your message on the forum. Alternately you can use Dropbox.

I got your WAV file from the Zoom and it plays fine in both Version 11 and 12 here.

I am still inclined to think this is a codec problem. Here’s an article from Adobe that does offer a good general codec troubleshooting guide.

You can see what codecs are installed on Windows by typing MSINFO from start/Run, drill down to Components/Multimedia/Audio codecs. Curiously, there is no wav codec listed on my system

    Hope this helps.
