We have about 550 GB so far to give her. We’re hoping we can clear off a 500 GB drive for her. So we’d like to leave safety on that, and will probably find more footage she needs.

July 1, 2008 at 4:46 am in reply to: Want to compress ProRes media to outsource, then relink laterHi Jeremy,
Our A camera is 23.98, 1920x1080i, shot on the P2 3,000
B camera is 1280 x 1080, shot on the P2 200, and was 29.97 until you helped me with a reverse Telecine conversion. So now everything is 23.98. The frame sizes still differ, and some of the B camera is DVCPRO, because the ProRes reverse telecine was eating up so much drive space.
Is that enough info?

June 27, 2008 at 12:49 am in reply to: Print to Video Question: Not 16×9 on my external monitor?Hi David,
By “Set the 16×9 flag” in Compressor do you mean just choose that in Geometry? You warn against accidentally encoding a letterboxed MPEG 2.
I don’t want to do this, but don’t know how.. I don’t see letterbox option. If I just export a 16×9 MPEG, then in DVD SP do I choose 16×9 letterbox or just 16×9? (To get it right on all TVs)
Finally, can I just go from fcp to Compressor MPEG without exporting a QT at current settings?
I’m very nervous about getting this right tonight.
Thank you,

Hi again Don,
I’m not sure what it means to “flag”. Does this just mean choose 16:9 in the Geometry in Compressor? And how do I make sure it’s flagged in DVD SP? Also just make sure I’m burning a 16:9 DVD? Also, will this play right on a 4:3 TV? Is there any way to make that happen?
And finally, why are some folk suggesting first a quicktime export at Currnent settings, then dragging that into Compressor. I think you’re just suggesting straight to Compressor, right?
And how big can my MPEG export be? Only 4.7 gigs?
Really really appreciate your help,
Katrina -
Great,
Thank you Don

June 23, 2008 at 8:59 am in reply to: Print to Video Question: Not 16×9 on my external monitor? We’ve just been monitoring on a second computer screen – Digital Cinema Desktop preview. And I’ve just been de-interlacing the 4:3 stuff with the De-interlace Video filter. The archival in on initial DVDs I made in iDVD did look pretty bad though.
I have been reading the DVD SP manual, and got the Peachpit book today, but can’t find what I’m supposed to do with this situation. I figure it must be pretty common.
Thanks so much for any help

Hi Don,
Thanks for your help.
We’ve already been editing for a while now on ProRes (HQ) 1920×1080 24p sequences. Almost all of our footage is 16:9 and the 4:3 archival looks properly scaled on our sequences. (We’ve been blowing it up to fit the frame.)
Do you think your workflow will work on the sequences we have?
When you say we should edit in an anamorphic timeline, do you mean I need to check anamorphic in the browser column for my sequence before exporting? I’m unclear on whether 1920×1080 is already anamorphic.
Also, you say use Compressor to create an anamorphic 16:9 movie… is that just 16:9 in the Geometry tab? I don’t see an anamorphic option anywhere.
Thank you so much

June 23, 2008 at 8:18 am in reply to: Print to Video Question: Not 16×9 on my external monitor?Hi David,
Thanks for your help. Is this also the best process for sequences that have mixed frame sizes and aspect ratios? And frame rates in fact. Most of our footage is 1920x1080i, 23.98, but we have a smattering of 30 fps 4:3 archival.
Should I still export a Qicktime movie with Current settings? And do I need to check Anamorphic in the browser column of this sequence?
Thank you

It is. I can tell my boss that’s the problem and she’ll tell me all her other assistants have been able to do it.
We’ve just installed a Kona LHe, which I have to spend some time figuring out. Is there protection against capturing copyrighted DVDs that way?
Thanks
