DVCPRO HD will play back over firewire but I had some drop out’s with capture (25p) but if you are planning a film out I would recomand Photo-jpeg because of full raster and try different quality settings that will sufice.

For capture you may buy firmtek pci sata external cards and enclousure for 2 hdd for all editing stations and do a raid0 then you can move the disks between stations, it is bit more expensive but will save you a lot of trouble

  • I have dual 2.0 with PCI-X and I do not get video out from SDI when capturing to DVCPRO HD
So I would try 2.5 maybe?

Do not use 4:4:4 RGB codec as the camera outputs only 4:2:2 so it would be just uneeded waste of bandwith and money you would need something to convert YUV to RGB

If you are going to capture to uncompressed coded – you will be impressed 😉

I don’t know what is causing the crashing but DO NOT CC 10bit RGB in FCP beacuse it renders only 8bit – if this is the only possebilty I would adwise to convert the footage to 10bit YUV

I am assuming you are using windows – in this case controlPanels->Blackmagic decklink
    under output choose SDI&Analog NTCS/PAL (Y-out)

Unfortunatly I have not captured anything from DVWA500P for a while – I think I did that 4.5 and then it worked nice – but I have edit to tape with this machine and then evrything has gone smoothly
