    HI!

We’re planning to shoot using the Sony CineAlta 1080/24p.

Due to the limitations in our budget we are planing to have the Post House Digitize our Footages and edit the materials ourselves (including all processes – i.e. edit/compositing/color correction)

Our challenge is to find a way to be able to edit our Cinealta footage over firewire with minimal storage requirements. We are ready to sacrifice some quality loss – but hopefully to an acceptable degree extent.

The project is a Feature Film that is to be transferred to Film.

    My question is:

    1) Can I have the footages digitized using the DVCPROHD Codec and still maintain the 1080/24p resolution? If so, will I be able to edit this in realtime over FireWire?

    2) Is there any other codec that would afford us to capture our entire footage (several tapes) with minimal storage and be able to edit over FW?

Your help would greatly be appreciated.

DVCPRO HD will play back over firewire but I had some drop out’s with capture (25p) but if you are planning a film out I would recomand Photo-jpeg because of full raster and try different quality settings that will sufice.

For capture you may buy firmtek pci sata external cards and enclousure for 2 hdd for all editing stations and do a raid0 then you can move the disks between stations, it is bit more expensive but will save you a lot of trouble

    Questions

What country are you in ?

What about working offline then conforming from the original tapes later?

If you are in a PAL country have you considered shooting 25fps instead of 24fps, as this simplifies the production process?
