  • the thing is with 30″ you get green/blue digital noise on your picture from time to time – at least this is my experience

But then again I HAVE DONE 10 BIT UC @ 1080 50i for more than two years on this setup – yes it has been short features and ad’s only because I had 300 GB drives – the biggest at the time of purchace
That gives you about 1TB of usable space that is faster than 160MB/s (10 bit 1080 50i is around 140MB/s – just a little overhead)

THIS IS VERY SHOESTRING BUDGET WAY TO DO IT BUT IT IS POSSIBLE

thing to consider, when you do not have the budget, is backup because most likley you are capturing straight from camera (on location) on HDCAM SR deck (not that cheap to rent) to make a good use of 10bit (if you use HDCAM, DVCproHD or HDV as source then you can capture 8 bit)
My backup solution was a PC computer with linux and rocketraid running 6 disk raid5 as offline backup (backup was done weekly over gigE) nowadays you might use external FW disk or even have two sata stripe raids mirrored

    good luck

May 19, 2006 at 6:41 am in reply to: sheer codec and blackmagic

yes the codec works but when capturing HD then in FCP it is only half resolution so you have to use BMD Deck Controll for capture and in YUV modes it is only 8 bit – when you select 10bit sheer codec and capture then open up the file is 8 bit

in SD and FCP works very good

  • if you could do that would be great – I am trying to make this right now – so it would be much less truble
you can sent it to kaspar[att]duograaf[dott]ee

  • It depends on the source
RGB sources so far are only FIlm scan, Viper, Dalsa, Arri D20, Sony F950, reel stream mod for HVX
otherwise you are best off in 4:2:2 YUV space

  • what codec is the original clip

only uncompressed and BMD RGB is supported

MBE works great with FT also in 2K
the only shortcoming right now is that there is no SDI output when in 2K mode, but this supposedly is a esy fix and should be there in near future

Actually the dell component inputs are pretty poor (then again compared to LCD TV set’s ot there – it looks wery good) but I would recomand getting the SDI DVI converter for best picture quality
