    I’ve successfully utilized Radio waves as an animated texture for Particular for such. Result can be used to drive displacement, glass or other similar effect, depending on how realistic a result you are after. Works great as a bump map converted to normal map for Element, for instance.

    What I do is round the height result to the closest multiple of the line spacing, thus ignoring the differences caused by descenders.

  • This would be a combination of loopOut() with two keyframes and an additional wiggle for position. Animate one bubble that goes from the bottom to the top (outside the frame at both ends) and add this expression to the position

    wiggle(2,25)-value+loopOut()

    Then you can control the speed of individual layers by moving the second keyframe and the amount of randomity by adjusting the wiggle settings.

    To offset a bubble in time, drag the layer on the timeline so it starts before frame one.

    Offsetting both position keyframe at the same time can be a bit tricky if you’re not used to it: Put the current time indicator on a position keyframe, select all position keysframes (by clicking on “position”) and offset the x value by dragging the X value.

  • There’s a “slide and slice” transition as part of this VCP tutorial: https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/colorful_glitch_fx/

    For an easy fix you should be able to import the text into a different (hidden) text layer and pick whip the “value” for the first line from that text layer to a new text layer where this expression creates the final visible text.

    The biggest thing that is missing in Illustrator to do this is exactly that: bitmaps. The textures in the image are all bitmaps. The drawing could have been done by hand (watercolor), although I suspect it is only partially so, and a lot of photoshopping has gone into it as well.

    In Illustrator you can import and overlay bitmap images, they’re just not readily editable like they are in PS.

    Should clearly be done in Photoshop. So, let me ask what problem are you trying to solve?

    There’s a boolean true or false you can add as a second parameter after time to the sourceRectAtTime input, which return either the size of the box or the extents of the content depending on value.

  • Great. “Un-time-remapping” a time remapped comp is something I would not like to try — I don’t know if it is even possible — so I construct separately controllable parts outside of it like you did here.

    As a side note, this is a pretty nice setup, not that simple either, but a very nice end result: https://vimeo.com/29643579

    Speaking of simple solutions, doing an overlay of a blurred version of the source image gives you almost the same effect, and you can wiggle the letters.
