Photoshop has detail-preserving upscaling. Whether it is the same exact algorithm as is used in AE, I wouldn’t know, but I see no good reason they’d be using a different one.

In fact, Adobe’s page on AE’s upscaling says “This effect is very closely related to the Preserve Details resampling option in the Image Size dialog box in Photoshop,” so I would dare to assume it is the same.

  • It works if you do it exactly as described. I tested it. It will not work if you have even one step missing or in wrong sequence. The point is that you copy your new image(s) to the file that already has the adjustment layers, not the other way round. You can’t copy adjustment layers, but you can copy the image to the “master” file that already has your adjustment layers.

Then using that exact batch action you can save the result as separate files, instead of overwriting the same file every time, which is what will happen if you try and do it differently.

Haven’t actually done that specific thing, but in theory, adding the expression “value” to those two properties, then using “expression to keyframes” would do it. Whether it will be in the world coordinate system is a different story. You may need to use toWorld expression for the values.

Reshooting is a very likely scenario.

You could try surface blur with high radius settings that get rid of the unwanted creases without messing up the shaodw, then a small-radius fast blur, then adding a fake texture to replace the texture that will be wiped out by the blurs. Possibly will have to add some motion to the texture layer to make it convincing, otherwise it will look like a screen not a curtain.

Personally I would make the text the same or at least very close to the same settings everywhere. So, if -50, 85% works for the worst case, I would use that everywhere. Or at least I would not go much beyond -35, 87% (or thereabouts) for the rest of the text.

If there is a condensed version of same font, the better. Fonts are generally designed to look best at 0, 100% settings.

September 25, 2015 at 4:26 pm in reply to: Comp window has gone bright blue?

To me it looks like you have double-clicked a comp named “Ally” which has opened it, and you are one frame before there is anything in the precomp, so you can see just the background color of that comp, which is blue.

  • The input values. Basic issue is that the alpha channel has partially transparent pixels at the edge. Levels can be used to force them to be either fully transparent or fully opaque. As I recall you need to do this inside a precomp so that Particular reads it correctly.

  • Save a copy of the file containing the adjustment layers but no image, with a blank background and ensure you have the background layer selected when you save. Save this as “adjustment master 01”)

Open a test document and with the test document open, record the following action:

    select all
    copy
    close
    open (document “adjustment master 01”)
    paste
save as (with any name in any folder, doesn’t matter for the end result)
    close (don’t save changes)

    (Stop recording)

Now you should have an action that copies an image as the second layer above background in the file where you already have the adjustment layers.

Then run a batch with the folder of your matching original images as the source folder and some other folder as the output folder. Select “Ignore Action ‘Save as’ commands” in the batch dialog, and give the output a filename, serial number (3-part should suffice) and extension.

(You have to do it in this fashion, otherwise you will end up with every consecutive file overriding the previous frame.)

Then do the same with your other adjustment layer files and original file sets.

Note that if you use the same output folder, you will want to change the naming convention so as not to override files that are already there.

Premiere has a Screen blending mode, which is why I don’t still see the problem with using Screen mode for everything.

Maybe an example where it doesn’t work?

  • Particular>Emitter>Position Subframe>

select “10X linear”, work for most cases, there are further options of that doesn’t do it.
