  • I’d use “posterize time” effect on the cartoon layer.

Any reason not to make the comp itself 24 fps?

Dividing (or multiplying) the frame rate with an integer, making it 15 or 10 fps, is a better option visually. You could try using pixel motion frame blend to attempt to create in-between frames, but that is rarely flawless.

Do you mean a typing effect where the words come in one letter after another?

There are more than ten different effects layered. There’s a matrix effect, the vertical slices, lightning, optical flares, particular (several different), bokeh, starlight, glow … I seriously doubt there is one tutorial that covers it all, as each one separately would be a subject of a tutorial.

    One simple method:

    1) Set Sound Keys output range to custom, set Min at 550, Max at 580, generate output

    2) Separate dimensions on the Position value of the layer you want to animate

    3) Create and expression (Alt-click the keyframe watch) and pick whip Sound Keys output for the Y position value.

  • It can be a null object, although most people (like myself) prefer solids, as they are easier to select on-screen. You can hide the solid before rendering, the expression will work just fine. The Slider Control can be found under Effects & Presets > Expression Controls.

Ok, that would certainly cause this issue.

Two ways to avoid the problem:

    1) Switch the y and z in the expression so that you get the motion along the correct axis or

    2) Rotate the camera 90 degrees around the point of interest instead of the Particular World

Although I haven’t used FCP, I assume it is the same deal as with Premiere: You can replace the clips with new versions, either by some sort of “replace clip”/”reload footage” function or by rendering new versions of the AE footage (now with your background added) with the same file names as the earlier. If you have no use for the current versions you can overwrite them, or if you are unsure, copy or move them somewhere else for backup.

    Should be no work lost.

  • [Yoshiko Tanaka] “wiggling is like flashing element in which each object jumps from one point to the other instead of actually “moving””

That depends on the settings. Wiggling is quite smooth if the first attribute (wiggles per second) is low. Try wiggle(.5, 500) for instance. You can do what you describe by creating a slider control and connecting the second value to it and animating the slider.

If you add a slider control on a separate layer called “control”, the code would be:

    wiggle (.5, thisComp.layer(“Control”).effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”))

And that single slider would control the amount by which all the layers with that expression wiggle from their original position. You can then animate the slider from your given amount to zero.

Yeah, I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t work. Does it make any difference if you turn off all other layers but the emitter (light), camera and particular? I made a comp like that and particular was correctly following the light.
