In After Effects, hold Shift, go in Edit > Preferences > (Any preferences) > Scroll down the menu and click on Secrets/Shecrets. Look at your settings.
I really really recommand you to look at Aharon’s tutorials (about Nucleo and workflow tips) if you click on his head at the top of the After Effects forum page.
Good luck.

Hey Zvi_Twersky,
[Zvi_Twersky] “So are you supposed to scale down the video to the action safe lines?”
Depends of the raw footage. But as for text, it matters a lot.
[Zvi_Twersky] “If so, when you add a solid, why do you choose “make comp size”, and why is there a comp size at all if it won’t be shown?”
Because you can decide wheter you want to play it on your computer or on your TV?
If I were you’ I wouldn’t touch to the video footage, I’d just adjust my text properly and make everything look good and see what it looks like on TV.
[Zvi_Twersky] “what do you do if you will want the clip to be shown both on computer AND a TV screen”
Save your project and make changes if needed.
I’m not a professional – although I use AE everyday since 4 years – but I hope someone will come with a better solution.
Good luck.

How ’bout Trapcode Particular?
Look at the demos on http://www.trapcode.com and the clips (in the Pyro Pack if I’m not mistaken), they’re very realistic!
Good luck.

[Julian06] “Zaxwerks invigorator is another option.”
Yep, by importing your AI (Illustrator) vector shape in it.
The Shatter effect too is an option, look for some tutorials on the COW (or Google) for more information. Type “After Effects Shatter 3D” or whatever.
Good luck.

March 28, 2007 at 10:19 pm in reply to: simulating a slide projector in After EffectsHey,
Look at this: https://www.videocopilot.net/videotutorials/old_film-look/index.html
Add a wiggle expression.
You might want to create black solid, do an elliptical mask “around” the comp window and put the mode to “Substract” and feather the edges.
Good luck.

The plug-in you’re looking for is DigiEffects Delirium (quite expensive thought).
Search “Human Torch” in the COW Archives/Google.
Good luck.

Here’s what I’d do:
Create an Adjustment Layer and apply a Fractal Noise (no complexity at all) + Blur (5 to 7) + Ramp (red and orange) and play with the blending modes.
The rest is only a matter of tweaking.
Good luck.
