I’m self contained on the whole. Make video for not for profits all on my todd. Using DSLRs these days. With FCP7 I would encode the DSLR files to Pro Res though I will experiment with using the footage straight from the camera, which I get onto my machine by using a SD card device and dragging and dropping.
Grading I do internally using plugins (with presets) or just colour correction. I deliver either via the web or on DVD using DVD Studio Pro. Web is mostly .h264 these days (flash now being a part of the past).
Have started messing with Motion 5. Used Motion 3 many years ago but stopped needing it, but decided to bring a bit of motion back in via licensed templates.
If I need audio adjustments I can’t do myself (used to use Logic 9 but that is now broken on Mountain Lion so need to think about that) a good friend is a sound engineer so I send him my file and he makes it sweet then sends it back.

I’m really not up for ejecting drives and reinstalling them. Obviously I’ll live with the clutter, but more so was curious if my BU drive also having the projects on them at the same time is going to be an issue as FCPX says it won’t load one. I think it ignores the BU version but was just curious if others new.
And yep, hiding all redundant drives permanently is one of those things I’m kind of surprised isn’t in place 18 months down the line. but hey 🙂

ok, if you have the time and inclination, it doesn’t seem to be working quite right. When I boot it up it offers:
AppleScript Error
The variable appPlugPath is not defined. (-2753)I click ok and it goes to your I Dare || Quit Application page.
I click I Dare 🙂 and it asks for my password for fxMover to make changes, I click ok and your UI opens up.
I go to /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro but no disable Templates folder has been created, and in the UI in the Built In section there is nothing, just the headings Group | Name. I hit the refresh and still nothing.
Am I doing something wrong? Should I create the Disable Templates folder structure myself (I guess inside Disable Temples are the Effects generators etc folders)?

yes I have considered that, but, well at least till then my filters are decluttered and more usable by my mind.
You did FX Remover didn’t you? I found it posted on another forum but I couldn’t make it work. It kept on having a code error. I got as far as accepting I wanted to dive in then nothing.
Did you do an upgraded version (on the other forum you said you would)? Any chance of posting what you are successfully using here?
It is really only for the inbuilt stuff, all the third party stuff is easy to rearrange and order as I need and that is great. A shame Apple don’t make the install put their filters in the third party folder and allow us to do as we will. Or have them as separate DLC so we can pick and choose.

Ha. Now I use that filing system for my plugins but must have had blinkers on as I never considered it for the drop down. Yep, workaround and thanks for pointing it out.
Still a shame these things can’t simply be hidden or deleted. The can in motion, so…

Actually what is really annoying is that in Motion 5 you can actually right click on the preset style and it gives an option to remove it. Why oh why couldn’t they have stuck that in FCPX for all filters, themes, transitions etc.?

haha, ok, if anyone comes by this post because they want to do the same as me and are also quite into exploring and messing with stuff, I can state from my experience that when you think about, and then find the text settings in motion, because it seems like they are still being read in FCPX despite deleting them that it may be because they are still in motion… don’t delete the motion ones 🙂
Don’t know why because everything i have deleted from the FCPX folders has been fine, but deleting from Motion made it fine for motion. but everytime i clicked on a text filter in FCPX it crashed.
Have reinstalled both so if I get any further with this I shall post again.
But if anyone has any idea of how to clear the presets out the text drop down box for text templates it would be appreciated. Great feature currently littered with crap.

After a bit of messing around a pop up box says save to preset library, so perhaps that is where the built in ones may be. Anyone know where the preset library is?

So there is a transition filter i can drop on 2 bits of audio butted next to each other and it will cross fade them?
great, then where is that transition filter? I just can’t find it. I found the Alex 4d one but it had to be placed on the video and that translates to an audio crossfade, that isn’t what I need or want to do. I want an audio crossfade transition so I can quickly and easily, you know, crossfade two audio clips.
