deleting transitions etc from FCPX forever
Posted by Julian Bowman on December 22, 2012 at 6:12 pmHi,
i have lots of third party plugins and I am going through and putting them in favourites folders or deleting expired ones or ones I never use, and have found out where these are etc.
But there are some transitions that must have come with FCPX and I can’t find their folders to delete them, the Movements transitions for example which include ripple, spin, slide, smear, swap.
Whereabouts are these on my HD so I can delete them?
Cheers

December 22, 2012 at 6:58 pmYou can right-click the application in the Applications folder and open pack contents. Go to Plugins>Media Providers>MotionEffect.fxp>Contents>Resources>Templates. You have in there Effects, Generators, Titles, and Transitions. I have no idea what hacking this will do to the application.
All the best,

December 22, 2012 at 7:17 pmDon’t know why I think this is going to be trouble, but I kinda do.
X is a carefully structured system of metadata lookup.
Deleting code that the very foundation of the interface expects to be able to find seems to me to be a potentially really good way to “lock up” the underlying database.
But maybe that core stuff is polled and looked up anew at every launch. If so you’ll probably be OK.
But if not, you might stop X in it’s launch tracks.
Do come back and let us know what happens. (And make sure to keep a clean copy of the program ready for re-installation if this breaks something.)

December 22, 2012 at 7:20 pmAll seems fine Tom, it’s just the same folders and content in the library with third party stuff but bunged inside the app. All seems to be working fine, and now my browser area things are far neater 🙂

December 24, 2012 at 10:32 amIt won’t cause any trouble to remove template out of app bundle.
Something you should be aware though is that they will be back with the next update.
I’ve written a script for own usage which uses a list of what I don’t need.Andreas

December 24, 2012 at 11:12 amHey Andreas.
yes I have considered that, but, well at least till then my filters are decluttered and more usable by my mind.
You did FX Remover didn’t you? I found it posted on another forum but I couldn’t make it work. It kept on having a code error. I got as far as accepting I wanted to dive in then nothing.
Did you do an upgraded version (on the other forum you said you would)? Any chance of posting what you are successfully using here?
It is really only for the inbuilt stuff, all the third party stuff is easy to rearrange and order as I need and that is great. A shame Apple don’t make the install put their filters in the third party folder and allow us to do as we will. Or have them as separate DLC so we can pick and choose.
Cheers though.

Below the link to an updated version.
https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/fxMover/XTR.dmgThere is no help file yet. So here a short description.
Launching the app first gives you a warning.
If you proceed the app on it’s first launch will create a directory at “/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/” if it not exists.
Then it will create a folder named “Disabled Templates”, within this folder it will create the basic subfolders.
When you move templates out of the FCPX bundle they will at the same level as they had been within FCPX.
After you moved some stuff always a log file with a unique name is written into the “Disabled Templates” folder.Have fun

ok, if you have the time and inclination, it doesn’t seem to be working quite right. When I boot it up it offers:
AppleScript Error
The variable appPlugPath is not defined. (-2753)I click ok and it goes to your I Dare || Quit Application page.
I click I Dare 🙂 and it asks for my password for fxMover to make changes, I click ok and your UI opens up.
I go to /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro but no disable Templates folder has been created, and in the UI in the Built In section there is nothing, just the headings Group | Name. I hit the refresh and still nothing.
Am I doing something wrong? Should I create the Disable Templates folder structure myself (I guess inside Disable Temples are the Effects generators etc folders)?
Cheers 🙂 And thanks for your time so far.
