  • Removing pre set text styles from the drop down menu

Posted by Julian Bowman on December 23, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Hi, in the basic Lower Third, for example, there is a drop down menu which will be great for storing lower third text for different clients for example.

At the moment it is populated with a load of, um, built in ones from Apple. I have found na folder in

    >>>MotionEffect.fxp > Contents > LibraryContent > Text Styles and deleted them, but they still appear in the drop down menu.

Does anyone know how to just get rid of them completely from FCPXs drop down menu so I can just store my own in there?

Would be nice if you could just right click and a pop up gave us the option to delete.

    Cheers

After a bit of messing around a pop up box says save to preset library, so perhaps that is where the built in ones may be. Anyone know where the preset library is?

haha, ok, if anyone comes by this post because they want to do the same as me and are also quite into exploring and messing with stuff, I can state from my experience that when you think about, and then find the text settings in motion, because it seems like they are still being read in FCPX despite deleting them that it may be because they are still in motion… don’t delete the motion ones 🙂

Don’t know why because everything i have deleted from the FCPX folders has been fine, but deleting from Motion made it fine for motion. but everytime i clicked on a text filter in FCPX it crashed.

Have reinstalled both so if I get any further with this I shall post again.

But if anyone has any idea of how to clear the presets out the text drop down box for text templates it would be appreciated. Great feature currently littered with crap.

    Cheers

Actually what is really annoying is that in Motion 5 you can actually right click on the preset style and it gives an option to remove it. Why oh why couldn’t they have stuck that in FCPX for all filters, themes, transitions etc.?

    Julian,

You can’t get rid of them, but you can make your own order.

Set up a style and from the popup save the style with a name like “0_my customer 1” etc. Cause of the number as first character these style(s) will always be first in the popup list.

    Hope that helps.

Ha. Now I use that filing system for my plugins but must have had blinkers on as I never considered it for the drop down. Yep, workaround and thanks for pointing it out.

Still a shame these things can’t simply be hidden or deleted. The can in motion, so…

    Cheers
