Sorry, is this Final Cut Pro 11 already? It looks great. When’s it out?

You probably weren’t using it right / holding it right / understanding it right / stuck in your ‘old’ ways / antiquated / just not getting it / or a grandad [delete as applicable]

Hang on. There is the techniques forum. It is apparent to most that this forum is about people’s feelings of X. The ‘cheerleaders’ are just as bitter and snide and rude as the ‘whiners’ though from my experience the ‘cheerleaders’ like to pretend they’re not but are victims of incessant vitriol whereas the ‘whiners’ appear to be quite candid about hating X and expressing that forthrightly.
I discern two things from these perceptions.
1) I come to this forum to be both entertained and feel catharsis
2) If I didn’t want to read the ‘debate’ that goes on here, I wouldn’t come here.
I find the cheerleaders hilarious because the majority of the time their posts are laden with blinded optimism, hypocrisy, flip-flopping arguments and insults followed quickly by protestations of victimisation (Actually, I’ll amend that to most of Craig and Chris’s posts)
I find the ‘whiners’ engaging because they have a similar perspective to me, seem to be angered and frustrated by Apple in the same manner I currently am, and Aindreas posts are poetic in their antagonism.
Personally I still find it hard to accept that we weren’t given FCP8 in the last 2 years with just 64bit to use the power of our Macs… it would have tied us over until FCX3 when this may have value as an editing system for anyone other than people wanting to do relatively basic edits as one man shows, and had FCS3 not been EOLd would have stopped about 97% of all antagonistic complaints…. and YES THAT IS GOING TO F*** ME OFF FOR YEARS because although FCP7 still works, it still only works as a 32bit programme (a fact gleefully ignored by the cheerleaders when they so wittily say ‘well, was FCP7 deleted from your Mac’) and those of us embeded in FCP have waited 3 years for this upgrade.
Sure I can (and probably will) move to PPro 5.5 at some point this year, but that is a £1500 switchover in real money terms (4 to 5.5 upgrade and a new graphics card) and worse still is the amount of time it will take to get myself back up to speed when i’ve spent 8 years learning FCP and being comfortable and fast with it.
X isn’t a brave new shift into a new paradigm that is the future of editing, it is a new idea forced upon me at my expense because Apple wants to be a consumer company with go faster stripes. That’s fine for them, truly, but when that change directly impacts on me and my life then i’m going to p!ssed and i’m going to want to vent and feel catharsis. I get that here.
So, personally, no, I won’t f*** off. I won’t stop calling a spade a spade. I won’t start believing in some magical mythical future where X is the dogs b0llocks because at this moment all that belief is hope. No I won’t accept snide digs and ridiculous statements from the X fanbois nor be told I’m antiquated or stuck in my ways. Believe me I am not. I don’t make a killing from filmmaking but I do bring in £60,000 a year on average, on my own, with a lot of happy clients and not having had to find new ones for the last 2 years. I work hard, and enjoy it, but it means that my free time is precious, as to be honest is my money and Apple have just taken a large turd on both my free time and my finances.
And this is a public forum. Till they change the title of this forum to FCP X Sycophants, everyone’s opinion is valid and whining that we’re spoiling your buzz… well, tell it to your mum.

“I made a simple little post (must have been the most sinister thing ever writen on the Cow) about how surprised I was about all the DRAMA. That quickly turned into insults and other nasties…….Apple sucks, Steve Jobs sucks, I suck (I’m also an amature), FCP X is a joke/iMoviePro, and on and on.”
The problem with revisionism on a forum, is your original ‘simple little post’ is only about 10 threads down, and still contains all the insults you levelled at people that can’t use the current ‘upgrade’ because it won’t do what is needed, and your flip flopping on your argument just to try and beat a post that that retorted to your original.
I’m now guessing, given the spelling too, you’re a recent NotW journo with a bit of time on your hands at present.
Still, really glad you like X… it still doesn’t work for all those who are complaining (myself included) and nope, the fact FCP7 is still installed isn’t compensation for waiting 3 years for a 64 bit upgrade and getting given a turbo charged toy.
Everyone who is moving to Premier is doing so because we’ve already waited years only to discover we have to wait years more on the off chance Apple will make X an app that can be used by all people who make a living from it, rather than a minority who make a self-contained living from it and hobbyists.
Do you think I wanted to waste precious time learning a new system? Nope, I wanted FCP8 which would have been 64 bit and made the use of my £2500 block of hardware. And given I am going to have to learn a new bit of software, do you think it will be X which can’t do what I need it to do to keep earning a living? Nope again. And am I going to run a 32 bit software and lose hours and hours of time sitting on my thumbs on the off chance X evolves satisfactorily when Apple wouldn’t give you the time of day unless Jobs said they could so we actually have no idea whatsoever what will happen with it? Nope.
Love X mate, just don’t hold yourself up as some sort of whinger-focussed piñata when you basically insulted people about something you have admitted you know nothing about because you are an ‘amature’ [sic].

Cheers Alex.
Ok, have to admit to being a tad confused and I’m guessing because FCP (perhaps) offered less in terms of Audio, but yep, I have created new audio tracks (tested mono and stereo) and it seems i can drop multiple clips on different ones, so a good step in the right direction.
I think I need to use google more than creative cow as i’m only trying to ascertain if i can do what I do on FCP without too much hassle and if 5.5 is enough of a step up for me from FCP7 to invest the time and money in it now (or wait until CS6 and muddle on). I know I have to learn it at some point because X feels more and more like a bad dream with every post/review I read.
At the moment capturing from my sony deck is the main focus (though I can capture through FCP7, but eventually that simply won’t work when Apple get round to updating the OSX enough to kill it off).
Thanks for the support Peter. I already changed to the FCP7 keystrokes (thank you Adobe!!!) which brings a degree of familiarity). As for the rest, as I said above, probably best I use tutorials.
Mostly I want to know I am able to and comfortable with editing the way I edited before (which ironically I cannot with the recent FCP ‘upgrade’ 🙂 It’s a bit like house sitting for someone. I know they have all the stuff I have in my house, but god knows where they put it and how their complex TV set-up works 🙂

You can parse words/ideas. It really doesn’t matter if you want to call it an upgrade or a new program. Maybe it’s both.
It is what it is – sweetie.
You must be an eleven year old or something if you truly missed my point.

Found a tutorial on keyframes. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with the effects panel.

Cheers Alex,
found ther effects panel which had what i was looking for. Will google how to put keyframes in.
Bit confused by the audio. I’m used to dropping in a clip V1 A1/A2 and then dropping another clip V2 A3/A4 and it’s all fine and dandy. This doesn’t make sense to me and I can’t see how to add new audio tracks. Still, i’ll get there.
