    Hi there,

So we did a thorough cleaning of the inside and the fans still won’t spin down!

Is it bad for me to try re-setting the SMU AGAIN? I used a retractable pencil eraser and I’m wondering if the eraser retracted instead of pushing the button. Is it ok to push the button more than once?

December 2, 2009 at 3:45 pm in reply to: Available RAM in System Settings Incorrect…?

Wow! Really?? Who knew?! I certainly thought adding more RAM would help my applications run faster in ADDITION to my system – which also doesn’t seem to be running any faster either incidentally….

I often get the “preparing video for display” msg when there really isn’t anything complicated going on and after reading more about that, I thought it was definitely a RAM issue.

Ok, well thanks so much for your prompt response.

Oh! Didn’t realize the upgrade is a full install and just needs a serial. Cool. Thanks!

Anyone know of any way to get 5.1 so I can get my quad core up to 5.2? This is proving impossible….

    Thanks again

October 1, 2009 at 1:40 am in reply to: Final Cut Studio Upgrade Question

True, the system I’m currently working on is a pre-intel quad core but I’ve also purchased a 3GHz MBP so I my plan was to install my original Studio on it and then install the purchased upgrade…

But does this mean then that the FCPS I have won’t install on my new MBP? If not, what might my options be…? I should still be entitled to my upgrade, no?

    Thanks for your response

Just checked and it is 4.4.1 Problem seems to be solved though after repairing permissions and re-installing… though m2v encodes seem to take ages…

February 8, 2008 at 5:02 am in reply to: can’t digitize

i’m having a similar issue. using fcp5 on quad G5. shot using sony v1u 24p. capture window recognizes TC but no video.

not sure of the correct capture settings in HD so i fiddled around before trying the easy setup. chose the HDV 1080i settings and still no video showing up. i’m using the camera as a deck which i can’t see being an issue as the computer is successfully controlling it. i checked the display settings and have video out set to Vout & display. don’t see what else there is…

    please help!

January 24, 2008 at 5:15 pm in reply to: Pixellated transitions

there are several posts in the cow that discuss the inferiority of compressor’s VBR. I’ve been using compressor for 2 years and abandoned VBR’s in the first month after hours of troubleshooting the pixelation i was getting and then finally reading about it here.

i just tried it again with the bit rates set to the defaults of average – 6.2 and max 7.7 and took a screen grab of the pixelated transition. not sure if/how I can post that here tho… i can email it if you like.

In any case, compressor is a piece of crap in my opinion and we’re looking into buying episode. it’s by far the best encoder i’ve tested.
