  • Final Cut Studio Upgrade Question

Posted by Judy Singh on September 30, 2009 at 11:44 pm

I purchased the first FCP Studio back in early ’06 and I’ve recently purchased the new Studio upgrade.

My question is will the fact that I somehow missed the boat on the 5.1 cross-grade (don’t ask, cause I don’t know how I didn’t know about it) mean the one I just purchased won’t work?

Yes, I’m still running 5.0.4 and it appears that it’s impossible to upgrade to 5.1 now as you were supposed to send in your install discs about 2 years ago.

Does anyone know if it’s still possible to get 5.1 and if my new upgrade will still work from 5.0?

    Thanks,
    Judy

any version will work for the upgrade, but you need an Intel system for FCS3 and the first FCP that worked on Intel was 5.1 so if you were running 5.0 you probably don’t have an Intel system.

True, the system I’m currently working on is a pre-intel quad core but I’ve also purchased a 3GHz MBP so I my plan was to install my original Studio on it and then install the purchased upgrade…

But does this mean then that the FCPS I have won’t install on my new MBP? If not, what might my options be…? I should still be entitled to my upgrade, no?

    Thanks for your response

You don’t need to install the original Studio. Just install the Upgrade and at some point it will ask you to enter the serial number from the original.

Yes, Studio 3 will install on a new Intel based MacBook Pro.

Oh! Didn’t realize the upgrade is a full install and just needs a serial. Cool. Thanks!

Anyone know of any way to get 5.1 so I can get my quad core up to 5.2? This is proving impossible….

    Thanks again
