SR Codec is a combination AVC and Wavelet compression scheme, recorded at 440 or 880mbps. Just like the data that gets recorded onto the tape.

The mac is not certified for 4k with any graphics card. In the config it only has up to 2k support. That’s single channel not stereo. I have a gt120 for gui and GTX480 for processing and am able to do 3D HD quite effectively. Might be able to pull off 2k-3D, but if you seriously want to do 4k-3D with RT performance, Linux seems like your only choice.

That said with HD proxies you could definitely handle grading and reviewing on the mac, and it wouldn’t require the 4000 for gui, though it might not hurt.

Scratch I think requires ASSIMILATE Scratch. Startup mode you can enter by disconneting/reconnecting the USB cable without the driver loaded. I.e at the login screen on a davinci system. Or on a system without resolve or the tangent software installed.

Can’t speak for BMD… but I do know that all of the BMB Desktop Video driver supported devices seems to work on Resolve (i.e all flavors of Decklink & Multibridge)… haven’t tried any Intensity gear as it’s more consumer focused. The thunderbolt Ultrastudio 3D is mentioned in the config guide.

    I have 2 5500 and 3 5800. And HDCAM-SR is now a software codec in addition to a tape.

If you have the 5800/2 with the data option you can pull the file media off of the tape media. And the SR-R1 SR-MASTER recorder will soon support recording to SR codec.

There is even a QT plugin support for SR codec and AMA plugin for Avid. Sony has done a great job adding support for the format.

  • Both audio & video should be tied together and moving to the same destination drive in consolidate.

  • The audio should be going with it. Have you set it to seperate audio / video destinations?

  • You should edit off the original clips but use the new media. You should relink on your portable station where the old media is offline. When you move that back to your online station the proxy media will not be available and you’ll instead use the online media within that project.

  • Yes. I meant the media in the bins.

  • Yes select all the media bins and consolidate/transcode to your portable drive (probably in dnxhd36). Move project and bins to portable system. Open with media attached. You will probably need to delink, but once it finds all of the new proxy media all should be back to life. Edit away. The take the project back to your online session and delink again to original media.
