What codec is it you think you’re missing? By the looks of the list you sent you have all the uncompressed codec? Are you looking for prores, etc?

Again as in reply to your first post. The BlackMagic cards do not use the BlackMagic codec for uncompressed, except for RGB 4:4:4 10bit. All of the YUV codec ( the kind you would use in standard definition ) are infact apple uncompressed 4:2:2 8bit & 10bit. These are the correct codecs for uncompressed.

You can just use the regular displayport or DVI to connect your computer monitor. But you need a color critical broadcast monitor to grade on. Some people are successfully using a hp dream color or the like, with a proper calibration. But you don’t use the computer image to evaluate color.

Those are the correct codecs. You should use the apple codecs for YUV files.

Do you mean the BMD rgb 10bit codec? BMD uses the apple uncompressed 4:2:2 8bit & 10bit codec for YUV sources. I don’t believe there ever had been an 8bit rgb codec.

Maybe not an ideal workflow, but one way to be able to do a track is to burnin the pixel aspect ratio change.

This is because the qts themselves are not flag 16×9. This over rides your premiere pro setting. In FCP there is a simple checkbox for flagging 16:9. Does premiere have this in the format windows for the clip?

It doesn’t seem to push the CPU much just monitoring. My guess is it’s mostly GPU based. I’ve been playing with it on a Mac Pro and it handles 2k fine.

That said… I don’t know if the MacBook Pro GPU is beefy enough.

Also HDMI is not a reliable way to check levels.

You probably get more latitude working with the R3D files. If the AE guy isn’t working in floating point space he could loose something rendering out. I think the best work flow is your grade, export, reconnect in AE, export 1080. Thought it would probably be slower.

  • Just to add, you can also use a USB-SATA adapter. Though to get the data off you really need a quick interface, esata or at least FW800.
