An output lut retains full latitude all the way through your grade. Letting you use different techniques to extend the dynamic range of the image.

April 13, 2012 at 4:52 am in reply to: 5D davinci workflow?

I’ll answer some of your questions quickly. But a lot of this is covered in the manual. It’s not huge and I would recommend referring to that.

[Carl Nenzen Loven] “What is the workflow? Is there a roundtrip back to FCP for export?”
Yes, XML out from FCP, will reference your source media. Hopefully you haven’t burned in any looks yet. Roundtrip back can be done with XML back to fcp. This is covered in the manual.

[Carl Nenzen Loven] “How do I work towards Nuendo after? “

You’re going to spilt up your work into audio and video. Resolve doesn’t do anything to your audio, you want to send to Nuendo directly from your locked cut.

[Carl Nenzen Loven] “And if I want to crop it into 2.35:1 is there a way to make matte’s “stick” through a XML/EDL export?”
Yes, you can crop and matter in Resolve… or let it carry through in the XML and render the mattes out in FCP.

    Good luck.

  • [Mahi Rahgozar] “is possible/reasonable to partition the 1 TB drive into two internal disks and instal Snow leopard on one partition solely for the sake of keeping and running FCP7 without too many system related issues”
Sure, you’ll need to use the option key at boot or the startup disk menu to switch between them.

[Mahi Rahgozar] “Or should I just first instal snow leopard on this brand new computer and after installing the FCP studio, upgrade to Lion and instal Avid”

It’s never a great idea to upgrade an os with apps. Best to do a clean install of lion and then install all your apps. You can install the last version of FCP(7) straight into Lion. I’ve got some systems with both FCP & Avid running. In the past this would be frowned upon, and in the future it may cause problems… but for the time being I haven’t found any issues that I can attribute to having both apps installed.

April 11, 2012 at 8:18 pm in reply to: Desktop Video 9.2.1–any love for Avid?

I suspect a lot of the Avid fixes will have to come from Avid. The way Avid set it up, they created the SDK the decklink hooks into… not avid hooking into BMDs SDK as is the case in other apps.

Just as FCPX had an update to 10.0.4 with monitoring fixes… so will in all likelihood Avid.

  • Interesting you tried. Well that clears that up.

4k is almost all projection. Will see at nab. But no real point to 4k in anything under 50″.

  • [Michael Escher] “Is there a input control app similar to what AJA has where I need to tell the card that I am coming in via analog component?”

yes it’s in the system prefs. under decklink.

you might have dropped the frames going in to the hyperdeck. did you get a blinking red light while recording?
