Hopefully I”m not speaking too soon, but I have now successfully upgraded (via clean install) to Leopard, reinstalled FCS2, and cranking away on my projects again. Compressor is even working! During the middle of the install process (i think after Audio Content 1), the automatic install process ceased, but it seemed to continue fine by just putting in the disks and clicking on the install icon. After that, once I remembered to not allow the drives or monitor to sleep (and no screen saver!), i was good to go. I’m still a little iffy about this ProDrive, though. The other little surprise I discovered with Leopard is that my e-SATA card is now useless, so I’ve daisy-chained three FW800 drives together into one FW800 port on my computer…and wonder if that is why they (the drives) continue to seem to go to sleep…and then all of a sudden kick into gear again? Computer is running fine, FCP running fine, but the drive sounds are a bit strange…

Oi! When it rains it pours…
I’ve been trying to update Tech Tool, and it has been ‘gathering information’ for about the last hour. Since i was about to do a clean install of Leopard (first time!) anyway, i think my next step is to just wipe out the system drive (boy, that sounds dangerous!) and start over with Leopard and then FCP. Not much media content on that drive anyway, but i’ll back up what i can and get going…but i’ll keep checking the forum (from my “trusty” ol’ PC) to see if any of you have any pointers before i get past the point of no return…

The destination drive was brand new, partitioned and formatted. I have since reformatted the drive again (this is the new Simple Tech Pro Drive) but have yet to try the clone again until I can get Final Cut Suite to work again…
My next move might be to reinstall Final Cut since it seems the rest of the programs (outside the suite, like Mail, Safari, etc.) are working fine.

Ya, thanks. Trashing ye olde prefs was the first thing i did, then did the repair and verify permissions on the drive via Disk Utility, no luck. Ran Tech Tool (simple and intermediate tests so far) with no problems found. Hmmmmm…

Bummer…i’m honestly kind of leery about spending another $300 or so on a card that has burned up on me twice, and i’ve heard others here with the same problem. No other good cards for the G5? I’m really not quite ready to jump to a brand new Mac just to get a better graphics card…but i guess you get what you will (or won’t) pay for, eh?

Thanks David. And did you never experience the funkiness in Compressor described in this thread? I’m going to grab Leopard this afternoon…but, of course, not install it until my system drive has cloned itself to yonder other drive. (Thanks for the reminder!)

I’m about to buy Leopard, but looked here first to see what problems might be lurking. So what is the conclusion here: should it be installed as an upgrade (as shown on the website commercial/tutorial/movie) or as a clean install? Any other problems when putting it on a G5 (PowerPC)?

Out of warranty service is offered by AMD in special cases. Unfortunately because RMA no longer stocks the parts to reapair your series of boards this is not an option on your product. Your only option at this point in time is to replace the card with a retail/etail purchase

Yes, it is. Fully “unmasked” for several months now. Thanks again for your solutions. It hit me about half-way through burning these QT’s to DVD that they probably weren’t going to play in my PC (not good for sending to a client). As per your input, I converted one file to Pro Res, and it multiplied it’s size about 7 fold. In the future, if you were capturing HDV footage, and wanted to also send “full rez” clips to the client for possible future use on a PC system, what codec would be best to use? I had forgot that DVCPro HD is a unique codec to FCP…but hopefully will remember next time!
