Problems using Compressor after Leopard upgrade
Posted by Jack Pitzer on October 31, 2007 at 5:55 pmI’m having trouble using Compressor now that I’ve upgraded to Leopard.
When I submit the batch, I get an error message about not being able to start background services.
I’m also getting a problem with exporting an M2v using “Export using Quicktime Conversion”
It keeps telling me I have to render my already rendered video.
Any thoughts?J. Tad newberry replied 17 years, 1 month ago 7 Members · 9 Replies -

October 31, 2007 at 9:27 pmYes, don’t upgrade to Leopard yet. Did you clone and have the the ability to do back to Tiger?

November 25, 2008 at 10:48 amit’s funny my compressor also didn’t work after an upgrade to leopard. Tried all the tricks we could find on the net to get it to work but nothing did. we ended up going back to Tiger. Then one day compressor stopped working on tiger and nothing we could do fixed it. So we deciede to upgrade to leopard. we did this without uninstalling compressor or any of the programs. Sudeenly compressor worked! weird. So maybe keep trying! That was about a month ago. yesterday compressor stopped working again. Just refused to process anything though no error message came up. After a bit of searching on forums I dind´t find any solutions and nothing people suggested seemed to work. Then I found this little gem: a freeware program called “compressor repair”, I ran it and lo and behold- compressor works again! enjoy 🙂

March 30, 2009 at 6:21 pmI’m about to buy Leopard, but looked here first to see what problems might be lurking. So what is the conclusion here: should it be installed as an upgrade (as shown on the website commercial/tutorial/movie) or as a clean install? Any other problems when putting it on a G5 (PowerPC)?
Thanks again!

Leopard is a very mature product now Mortimer. I’ve had it running here since December of 2007 without issue — on a G5 BTW.
A totally clean install is always best, and always remember to clone your system drive to an inexpensive firewire before proceeding with any update or upgrade.

March 30, 2009 at 6:53 pmThanks David. And did you never experience the funkiness in Compressor described in this thread? I’m going to grab Leopard this afternoon…but, of course, not install it until my system drive has cloned itself to yonder other drive. (Thanks for the reminder!)
Thanks again!
