I’m going to replace my burned up X800 XT card know there is quite a list of cards suggested on the Mac/FCP site. I’m guessing that not all of those will work on a G5 (PowerPC)? Should I just buy a new X800, or is there a better option? I am limping along with my older GeForce 5200 until I get the new one.

    Thanks again!

I think the X800 is the best you can get. The newer ones are much more powerful, but they don’t make them for a G5.

Bummer…i’m honestly kind of leery about spending another $300 or so on a card that has burned up on me twice, and i’ve heard others here with the same problem. No other good cards for the G5? I’m really not quite ready to jump to a brand new Mac just to get a better graphics card…but i guess you get what you will (or won’t) pay for, eh?

    Thanks again!

I have the X800 in my dual 2ghz G5 and it’s been just fine for what it’s worth.

Unfortunately all the newer cards are PCIe and our machines are PCIx.

If you can afford to upgrade, there are lots of other advantages to an intel machine….pro res, speed…ability to run Snow Leopard when it’s released…etc.
