Yes, in the tools palette you’ll find the rate stretch tool which should do exactly what you’re looking for. I added “R” as a shortcut to activate it as I find it very convenient

    Steve,

Yes I am aware of the 1.6x crop factor and I considered that when giving my lens recommendations, I just didn’t feel the need to mention it in case this thread might turn into information overload 🙂

And yes I meant to convey that she could just move the camera closer or further, but I guess I was kind of vague. Thanks for clearing it up.

To Erin, it’s a good idea to get a basic understanding of exposure and the settings to control it before going on many more shoots. All you really need to learn to get started are the 3 main settings you can change (ISO, Shutter speed, Aperture/f-stop) and the benefits and drawbacks of changing each of them

No problem. For stand ups or other controlled situations, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 that I mentioned before is a great option. It is a prime lens however, so you have no ability to change focal length if you need to go wider or tighter.

If you want a variable focal length these are some pretty solid options:

For speeches, you will probably need a telephoto lens as you are usually stuck pretty far away:

  • Yes that’s the purpose, but I’ve also found that enabling multiprocessing slows down my RAM preview significantly. Try disabling it and see how it works

  • ^^ Yep. You can move the anchor point of the null to offset the flare but keep all the position keyframes in tact

This might also be worth checking out:

He doesn’t do exactly what you want but if you follow him as he plays around with shape layers I’m sure you’ll be able to figure it out

On a separate note, it’s sad that Joey Badass is making himself look bad by agreeing to be on tracks with Mac Miller

If you want a less tedious way than drawing on every frame, you can follow these steps:

    – Create basic shape that you want to animate
    – Create solid and add fractal noise effect
    – Change the fractal noise parameters to be long and stringy (you might need to play with these later to get the desired effect)
    – On the seed random parameter, alt+click the stopwatch and add the following expression: time*50
    – Precompose the solid and select move effects into new comp. Call the precomp “map”
    – Hide the precomp
    – Add a displacement map effect to the shape layer
    – Choose your “map” precomp as the displacement map layer
    – Choose “luminance” for both horizontal and vertical displacement.

Voila. You might need to do a lot of playing around with fractal noise to get the look that you want, but once you do, you can use it for a map on every shape you’ll be animating, and it will save you a lot of time.

Yes I did mean the interpret option. Different names in different software haha. Although if your 25fps footage plays back fine in the 30fps sequence without conforming, you might consider just skipping the conforming process. I would duplicate a clip, and conform one to 30fps, leave the other as is, drop them both in your sequence, and see if you like one more than the other.

As far as the yellow/red bars go, that just means the sequence needs to be rendered. Go up to sequence > render in to out

  • I would definitely go with a vector map. If you do a bit of searching, it’s not hard to find free 3D vectors. And yes follow Andrew Kramer’s tutorial, it will help you out a lot. Basically just attach your maps to a null and scale it up.
