  • Speed Change Shortcut?

Hello. I’m fairly new to Premiere and am trying to slowly but surely figure out some hotkey shortcuts to make my life easier. I have used Sony Vegas for the past 8 years and made the switch to Premiere because it was an easier workflow with After Effects.

Here’s my issue. In Vegas, if I wanted to change the speed of a clip, I would hold down Ctrl and drag the end of a clip in whatever direction, speeding it up or slowing it down, and I could actually see the length I was changing it to, line it up precisely with markers, etc.

In Premiere, it seems the only way to change the speed is to right-click and go to the Speed/Duration setting, then enter a percentage. This is fine, except that I am constantly going, “120%? No. Ok. *Go back* 130%? No. Ok. *Go back* 131%?” etc. etc. etc. It is very annoying.

Basically, I would like to know if there is a Vegas-like shortcut to this, so I don’t waste half of my editing time getting one clip to the right speed.

    Thanks,

Yes, in the tools palette you’ll find the rate stretch tool which should do exactly what you’re looking for. I added “R” as a shortcut to activate it as I find it very convenient
